84 K20 "Ethel" Not an Sbc/NV4500/241C

Semi restoration of a 1984 K20 pickup. 5.3 LS, nv4500, np241c.
I'm not sure I understand?

Right now you're in "tear-the-truck-apart-and-throw-stuff-away" mode (which is fine). But I wanted to make sure that Ben isn't tearing his truck apart right now, because he really needs to be getting it back together. He's way overdue for some wheeling time...

I am surprised that you're not selling off the truck while it's still worth something and buying a cheap engineless rig that doesn't require so much body work. Or is bodywork no longer an issue on this one?

Tear down will not happen for some time.. I'm not a fan of having two full blown out projects at the same time.. the blazer will get running first and then this will go under the knife.. probally after the first of the year.

This has an alter motive.. one of which I cannot discuss yet.. but there's a reason this has to happen a very specific need it has to fill. Reliable is a key component of that..

Hey now this isn't a full blown build.. the whole thig at this point has been maintenance and minor mods... just little crap. If you wanna see a build check out my other thread lol!

For as long as this thread has existed, it has garnered much more traffic than the other one has. :deal:

I assumed the Fordmobile build was on pause for most of that time (it's just now starting to get an occasional post).

Just transmissions. I have a trip planned Dec 10th weekend. Post in my thread for details.

Well considering the "beamed blazer" is a consistent effort and has much less significant updates or times where I got something done but didn't take any pics to update the thread made it a lot harder to update. That thread has 50k views and this one has 13k... but this being transportation to and from the blazer mainly because the dirt roads got bad during summer made it a priority. Now that it is at the "shop" which doesn't require the truck and I can take my car.

Campy, you are missing one major aspect to swapping a LS in the republic of Kalifornia. An 84 Diesel truck does not have to be smog checked. Nor does it have requirements of cat/converters. As long as he keeps the truck he don't have to get the truck checked out by a CARB (California air resource board) swap referee. To the state it's a diesel truck. He could put a supercharged big block, turbo LS or just plain LS, the State isn't going to give him a hard time.

Now had his 84 started out life with a Gas engine, if he wanted to swap a later LS in, he would have to use all the emissions garbage from the year of the vehicle the engine came from. Which means, dual cats, evaporative emission system for the fuel system and all the other goodies.

I know it saddens you to see a 6.2 rattler get yanked, but it's ideal for an LS swap in such a overly regulated state. I respect the fact he's wanting to pull the diesel before doing something crazy and blowing it up with a ton of boost.

But then again, it's not my truck. I dig it either way. Wrench on!

I love you guys and your banter, lol dayum.. and I am starting with a man auto... not some babaganuked 4l60 (sorry dude) and my trans dude is going to give me the ok once he's got some eyes on it.
This ain't no big hp build, it's a simple transplant.. I'll go over the motor to make sure it's good to go, maybe plop a cam in it and whatever else's needing replacing due to wear.
