84 K20 "Ethel" Not an Sbc/NV4500/241C

Semi restoration of a 1984 K20 pickup. 5.3 LS, nv4500, np241c.
I'd be afraid to use my block heater.. there's corrosion around that freeze plug in the block..

Since we had a get outa town away from the kids weekend, today was my only day to tinker. Since Ethel really needed to be deep cleaned I decided to yank the seat out and scrub the floor. I used bleach and dish soap.
Eventually I may replace the passenger floor or epoxy over it.. it hasn't rusted through but it's very flaky.. thoughts on what I could do with minimal damage to the existing floor?

Would it be worth it to wire wheel and see what you're left with? Then if you need to patch you can do it now and be done with it. Or do what I do with my 78's rust holes and put a floor mat over it:whistle:

Just a suggestion... Based on personal experience. Before you hit it with the wire wheel be sure to cover the under dash area... The shredded wool-ish insulation on the inside of the firewall is super combustible! Lol

That's a wise suggestion, I'd prefer to not burn it to the ground.

Take a wire brush to it and cover it with rust converter. Then look at how much metal you have left. If you see holes large enough for a bison to fall through, cover that section of floor with an epoxy/fiberglass combination. It's a simple solution that retains the factory contours with minimal work. And it's no longer rustable. ;)

Do you expect the rust to get any worse while the truck is in your region? I was thinking that rust is nearly unheard of out there. :dunno:

The only real rust risk in Cali are cars that are from salty air in the beach communities.

I am not too concerned with it rusting more but I want to paint it and cover it with carpet. And @F.S.F.W totally hope I don't have a string of bad leaky heater cores.

It's more of a plague... like flesh eating bacteria. At least you caught it before it was as bad as mine or your other one.

Well, I though this day would never come, for reasons that should be obvious the diesel has gotta go! Mostly just because the diesel isn't up to snuff for my uses and I would rather see it sent off to a good home vs me blowing it up with a turbo.

Swapping an Ls into this bad boy! Now we gotta find one, sell the guts from this one.. Yada yada

If you want it sent to a good home, why not sell the rig as it is and start with a TBI rig that has a blown engine? That would make the swap a little bit easier. A loose 6.2 is worth very little, at least in my region. Much more valuable as part of a driving truck.
