84 K20 "Ethel" Not an Sbc/NV4500/241C

Semi restoration of a 1984 K20 pickup. 5.3 LS, nv4500, np241c.
Yea I was attempting to drill the holes square, I made a template which failed. Then I traced the holes on the trans which failed because the pen was too big, couldn't see ink pen.. finally I got my punch out and tried to center it best I could see, got it close, I did have to grind the holes on the bellhousing some to fit it, it's tight not too worried about it. And I kept the mechanical bell because that's what I had. Trust me I would and may eventually buy the AA bellhousing if this gives my problems.

Ok. I used the BH as a guide for my sharpie, no template required. I also used it to set the drill bit angle. I slid pins into the holes to keep it from rotating during the process. I ended up drilling it out a second time because my drill bit choice didn't match my tap. :doah:

Noob mistakes.

I saw an episode of Finnegan's Garage on you tube where he used the transfer screw punches to make a bracket for a cyl head. Those were way cool too. You screw them into the holes on like a flat surface that has threaded holes already and the little punch tip pokes out and then you put your piece of metal against it and tap it and get light center punch marks in the center of all the mounting holes.

Well picked up the motor from lkq and it didn't have the rest of the parts like I thought so I talked to them and we came to an agreement on a reasonable price adjustment. They made it right so I'll Willingly work with them again. Good customer service.
Here we got the gen IV 5.3 in pretty stoked on how clean it is.

I stopped by to see Jake one of our customers who works at ACM performance, we had some IN-N-out for lunch talked truck stuff and came back to check out this twin turbo c5z06 which was bad ass.

Here's Jake's other 72 which we will be linking at some point next year. Stay tuned for that one it should be pretty cool.

We hung out for 2-3 hours and he gave me some pointers on the Ls stuff.

Got the motor home and pulled the pan and exhaust manifolds to see what condition this is in. Everything looks decent, not perfect but not bad by any means. It does have 111k miles so what I saw for wear etc seems par for the course.

I cleaned up the crustaceans and went to taping off all the surfaces I wanted paint free. Ps I suck at painting so it's not perfect and I know..

Side note, we added another member to the family, this is Sam and he's been awesome so far, super relaxed and great demeanor, and he likes me and will lay in the garage and keep me company.. never had that from a dog before and it's nice.. looking forward to many more years, he's 8 so if we get a couple good years we'll be happy.IMG_2833.JPG

Here's the finished product!! Hope she runs as good as she looks!
