84 K20 "Ethel" Not an Sbc/NV4500/241C

Semi restoration of a 1984 K20 pickup. 5.3 LS, nv4500, np241c.
Ya the Gen IV stuff is a bit different since they separated the transmission controller. But don't consider me an expert or anything as I'm just passing on advice from many other swaps I've read into.
Right on no worries! I need the heads up because this is my first shot at this.

And ya guys I saw the 6.2 thing and laughed because how much more ironic could it get... suppose that means someday it'll need a 6.2 Ls lol..

Are you a black widow vendor or ??
Technically yes but were sponsored by them also, I just like the sound of them..

Ok... so tonights defeat comes from ebay.. I bought a VSS 241c bearing housing and it arrived, I got the reluctor gear on but the bearing housing does not line up. I discovered this after 2 hours of grinding the notches for the oil pump... soooo.. During some research I realized the speedo gear assembly from the 241 is the same as the unit the th350 uses.. I have a mechanical speedo.... hmmm the 700r4/4l60 has a 90 degree VSS... This might just solve my problem. At this point what do I have to loose, another 30$ aint gonna change a thing considering i wasted 100 on this bearing setup which I did get the reluctor gear from so it wasn't a total waste. I have to imagine that the spacing should be close enough to work.. thoughts?

GPS speedo?

Oh, I missed that, I thought he was just trying to make the speedo work.

Steve, why do you like the sound of the black widow "mufflers" so much?
Racecar..

Because they don't sound like there is a sock in the exhaust and while cruising you can barely hear them.. but wfo they wake the dead.. so it's a perfect balance

The cool thing is all the mufflers still have decent tone without being too raspy.. you can make it sound raspy by using an x pipe etc but that's not what I am going for.

Just to play devil's advocate...that is a nice vid taken from the interior of a truck with good sound deadening and the windows rolled up. My 2015 GMC is silent in the same situation.

The Elco vid I think shows the true sound, at idle, from the exterior, with full tail-pipes. It's f-in loud. That's great if you want f-in loud. As much as I like loud, please don't piss on my back and tell me it's raining. At those sound levels I think you could save time and money and skip the mufflers altogether.

Just my opinion of course. Exhaust is probably the second most subjective thing about vehicles, right behind paint color. Sound quality, and decibel level are all personal preference. I'd never run anything half as loud as that, mostly because I get up for work between 12:30 am and 4 am...my neighbors (and my own family) would lynch me.

On a street/strip car...maybe.

I'll call it how I see it, until you drive around in a vehicle with these don't play it like you know.. we've put these on prob 5 trucks between the race truck with a pretty hot 400 down to Scott's gm goodwrench 350.. so I know how they sound on a squarebody.. I wouldn't be recommending them if they were so loud they were offensive..
of all the trucks none of them have had full length tail pipes.
So yea it's raining lol. Sorry not trying to be a dick but I'm just giving my two cents and it's not from a video.

You are 100% correct about subjective, I drive a 2013 vw Cc it's so quiet I can hear the dash rattle and it drives me nuts, so I feel like o have a pretty good range of what would be acceptable to most folks.. I know what quiet is and I know what loud is..

I think that the "mufflers" take some of the open headers kackel out. For me there really is no such thing as to loud. I am sure I'll have my limit. But so far I haven't found it. Never once. I could give a damn about my neighbors. I build hot rods to make me happy. No one else.

Fify..
Here's a great example.
I'd love to know if he's running headers too or stock manifolds/cats. Headers completely change the sound and tone of all mufflers. Also "DRONE" is subjective to what people can stand.
My '12 Silverado with the 6.2L L9H has headers, high flow cats, and a big Magnaflow muffler. It's pretty quiet at warm idle and cruise but sounds nice and deep when you get on it. It has almost no drone. But Half the time I wish it was louder, the other half I'm happy it's quiet and basically drone free. It's quite the dilemma :doah:
