84 K20 "Ethel" Not an Sbc/NV4500/241C

Semi restoration of a 1984 K20 pickup. 5.3 LS, nv4500, np241c.
Oh I’m a big believer in them, I ran two on my class 1.

It was worded weird, I was just saying the ford filters work good for high hp, as the umps filter good but have they’re limitations with big hp.

It made sense and I caught it, the design makes it seem like a restriction.

The sock/bag style pre filters are made about any style air filter out there. The dirt track guys run them religiously. Even on oiled and damn dirt it gets REALLY dirty dusty and it's the only thing that keeps the air filters clean. Stupid little thing, just pull it off and wash it when it gets dirty. Even here on our dirt road back roads a K&N oversized filter will get nasty in a week. Much less oil change to oil change. I run one on all my diesel trucks. It's cheap insurance.

Belt? What are you doing? Most aftermarket compressor relocations require a different belt.
It came with a belt and instructions stating if you have the larger alternator use this other idler pulley if you use the supplied belt.. well I followed the instructions and it doesn’t fit.. can’t evem force it..

Alright the wife saved the day and found the proper belt at Napa! She went and got it for me also in time just before they closed.. so I slapped it on with ease. We’re working with these guys to make sure these kits have the proper stuff in them and actually fit.
That being said... They told me it would have low 30s for temp on the vent.. and the low side was 25 psi and high was 160ish and the ambient temps were around 75-80

So ya it gets freaking cold..

On a funny side note I have been running my truck and it has been maintaining its temp with the slow speed fan on the fan pack.. never has a problem with temp regardless of what I am doing.. I plugged in what I thought was the condensor fan I am surprised at how much more air it moves lol... you can even hear it vs the low speed guy which you cannot hear when the truck is idling. So this should make it never overheat with the ac on lol.. hopefully it doesn’t run too cool.

So I'm totally ignorant on AC systems. Is the condenser the part that looks like a radiator? And you put a fan on that? Did it come with the system?

Correct condenser sits in front of radiator and the evaporator is inside the HVAC box.

Awww man just drove it with the discs and the ac and it’s about 90 here right now and boy it was nice.
I saw that temp drop to 32 degrees!! So I am prob gonna have to twist the knob on the thermostat to turn it up so it doesn’t freeze in humid days.. I’m good with 35. Also the trinary switch is slick. It does actually like is says cycle the condensor fan on and off with pressure.. I went for a drive and when I pulled it it was off and after it sat idle for 30 sec or so the fan came on! Pretty cool!! Not just a fan running always is kinda nice..

And I’ll say this about the gears, much much better around the block with the 4:10s

Used some exhaust mandrel to make the crossover for my intake. Tried to sand it before I painted it but I couldn’t get the crimp lines out. I’ll keep an eye on the intake temps to see if they are good like before with the open element.

Let us know how that air box works in a square, I'm considering using the stock box in my K30 for the obvious dirt issues
