is that an avalanche engineering crossmember? i'm diggin' it!

Yes it is and it is very cool, easy bolt in. so far everything has been bolt in except for th intercooler and even that was a no brainer for a guy like me who has no clue as to what I'm doing.:D

I'm interested to know how this thing is going to run! I want to get a M1009 and do the same thing with it so everything your doing will be really useful!

I will keep this thread updated as I progress. It will probably be the summer before it's on the road.

looks good, are you going to wheel it or what are your plans for it? also what year was that D250?

I will definetly wheel it but it's not a crawler by any means and I'm not lookin to do any body damage on the trail. Mostly loggin roads here in UT for fishining and hunting. The D250 was a 92 intercooled with a factory tach. It was a good running truck but had a lot of body damage.

yeah your K5 looks pretty clean, id be kinda mad if i dented the body or put big gouges or scrapes in the paint. im going to try and keep the body of my K10 straight once i finish the body work on it. by the pictures the D250 looked pretty nice. i would have liked to have that factory tach for my 88 W150

when you do your exhaust take lotsa pics so we can see down pipe clearances. i'm planning on a 4bt in the suburban and would like to run a 4" from turbo back. it looks like it will be really tight at the tcase. what lift are you running?

I am running a 4" rough country lift with a 1" body lift. I didnt have the tranny or t-case in there but the cummins didnt seem to make it squat any more than the orignal 6.2 did. If it does in the future I will have a local company build me some custom springs for the front because there will also be a custom front bumper and a 12k warn winch up front.

I will move my brake lines to the drivers side because I don't want them that close to the 4" exhaust. I also will either not box right there by the t-case and just do some plating or some fancy boxing because it will be very tight. It is even tight on a first gen Dodge and they run the brake lines on the drivers side also.

Edit; Oh yeah the down pipe clearance is about the same as a first gen Dodge which is to close, I have a 91 now that has melted the rubber through the heater box. My donor 92 had a heat shield on the down pipe that the 91 dosent have. I plan on putting some of that heat tape material on my down pipe that I have only seen pictures of online but when I get to that point I will figure out what it is and how well it works.

Well there has been a slight change in plans. I will be picking up a set of cucv m1028 axles on Saturday plus 5 goodyear runflats on H1 wheels along with wheel spacers for 1450.00 The axles have 37k on them. I know it won't be as hwy friendly as my 4.10 geared 1 tons but I should still be able to cruise at 65 with the nv4500 and the fun factor with 4.56s should be way better, not to mention the detroit in the rear and hopefully a no spin in the front.

Could you have installed this with out the custom x-member? Are you installing a 4bt or 6bt?

Do you mean could I have built my own? I am going with the 6bt.

Small update!
I got the engine completly re-gasketed, rebuilt the injection pump, 60lb valve springs on the intake and exhaust, 366 spring, 195 injectors, custom intake manifold and a complete recon head:D

Lol looks like 360 end to end too.

I was saying to myself, man a diesel doesnt look so different, then I saw the head lol

The 4bt is a complete bolt in if you get it from the right application.

sixb, your engine hasn't been a complete bolt in as most people would consider, you have a custom engine crossmember and will need a custom tranny/tcase crossmember, as well as custom engine mounts.

The 4bt was available in a GM application, meaning it's just as easy to drop in as a small block . . .

Nice work btw, gonna be a great ride!!

Thanks for sharing these pics! Did you find much rust on your frame? Any weak spots?

I see the body lifted overhead. What was required to remove the body from the frame? Any advice? Some day I would like to do the same with my k5, a frame off restore but I would install the 4bt.

I had very little rust, and plan on beefing up the weak spots before reassembly, I'll post pics in the coming weeks.

Un bolt the body mounts, gas tank connections, brake lines, e brake, steering, theres probably more but that's all I can think of for know.

Don't buy a lift, mine was going to be a simple swap until I bought this lift and now I'm out of control:D
