84 suburban, the land yacht

So I picked this burb up last year freshened it up got it running good and drove it. Motor and tranny run great as of now compression is good, I may upgrade later down the road but as of now it works so recently I decided to start cutting the rust out and replacing it. Once I finish up with replacing all the rusted areas I plan on getting the body work done( to the best of my ability, haven't done a alot of body work) then paint it. From there I'll start working on changing out the front and rear to probobly a 12 bolt front and 60 rear, and regear or better yet buy with the gearing I need already installed. Change out front and back bumper eventually not sure what I want I'll mess around with mocking up a template until I come up with something I like.

End result is something that I can take the kids out camping in, and I can drive the three hours out to the coast here a few times a year and surf fish.
I've never done a build thread on any of the trucks I've had, figured this one would be a good start. It'll be nice to look back and see where it started. I will try to keep this thing on a straight track but I am awful for that, I'll get on a left field tangent in a second. For instance one night last week the plan was to cut out the rear wheel wells, next thing I know I've pulled the dash out and working on refinishing it...well anyways here is where I am at up to this point I'll try to be sure to keep this updated regularly.

Here is when I decided to mess with refinishing the dash the other night, im happy with how it came out.

Tailpan and tailpan support, I'd say so far this was the biggest pain getting mine out where it was rusted all the hell, then getting this one slid into place. If I ever do another one I'll get the 2 piece instead, would be more welding but I think easier to place it.

Here's a few updated pics....will be a couple of months before I get back in it though. Had shoulder surgery last Friday so will be on hold for a bit. Plan is to get back on it asap though. Would like to see it in the paint booth by end of March.

Bed starting to come together, ended up going with truck wheel wells were taller and deeper. Allowed me to cut a little more to get all that out.

This old kicker was laying around so built a good for it, and threw it in...not over kill bass at all in sealed box but sounds really good.

My wife had a Grand Cherokee once upon a time that had the padded center console armrest. After a few years it cracked and started coming apart. That's when I noticed someone had repaired it with something like bondo. It could've even been bondo. They color matched it perfectly and even got the texture of the vinyl to match. It was pretty slick. If the dash pads doesn't crack long the edge of the bondo then cool. If you haven't seen it there is another filler I used to use for fiberglass fender repair on semis. It's called kitty hair. It's basically a fiberglass version of bondo. Its got fiberglass strands in it. I would think it would work pretty good too for a dash.
