HINZ28 submitted a new Build:

84'K5 TBI'd on Tons

I recently decided to give on my ol 89 K5. Was a great truck i built from nothing. I wasnt happy with the auto and built 14bff/D44 i had in it. I always dreamed of bigger better and a real mans transmission. I knew my pockets didnt go that deep and she was a rusty ol pile from floors to quarters. So i sold it..

A week later i made a trip up to Colorado and picked up my new rig for exactly what i got out of mine.
Not usually the guy to buy a already built vehicle but i couldnt say no to letting someone else eat the cost of what was put in this blazer

On the to the K5...

Is it a ten spline SM465/NP205 combo?

Martin

You would know before me. It is very possible tho cause the 205 is not original as it used to have a 208. Who knows what year this is out of. Older ones are 10 spline?

I have hardley had a chance to look closely at a lot of things on this truck yet.

Sweet rig ! It's awesome the way it all worked out for you :waytogo: Congrats on one heck of a great starting point :D

What's the extra lever between the seats?

M first thought was a cutting brake but there's a bike brake handle on it too. :dunno:

It's a hand throttle.

Martin

It is a hand throttle. Horrible half ass design it will be taken out and replaced with your normal thumb throttle on the shifter

Here's a couple of the adapter for Marty to identify

What are differences between 10 spline 30 and 32 spline? Just that? Suppose lower spline is weaker?

That is an '85+ 32spline combo.

There are a couple of differences between 10 and 32 -

* 10 spline is a short male tailshaft with a floating coupler sleeve joining it to a male 10 spline input.

* 32 spline has a long tailshaft that goes directly into a female input shaft.

The 10 spline version can be subject to a lot of spline wear under heavy use.

I don't know of any downside to the 32 spline set up. I'm sure the longer shaft could be more vulnerable to twisting but I've never heard of it.

Thanks :waytogo: I suppose it being a 32 spline is good news!

nice rig! Quite sure I've seen it around the springs a few times. There were a couple of that color scheme. Is that the one that used to run with Wade? (KTMoutfront) Score with all the goodies it has. I can only imagine how much you saved over putting it together yourself!

Yep, that's a 32 spline. That is the better setup. The only downside is that it's longer, but it'll be fine for you. Makes it easier to build a doubler because you can use the more readily available TH400 version of NP203 range box. That's the same setup I have.

Martin

POORBOYK5 I'm not sure who Wade is. This k5 is originally from AZ and the guy I bought it from (Berry) and a friend of his who was the previous owner had built the whole truck together. It would be kinda nice to find someone on here that maybe knows more about the truck.

Ill have to find ktmfrontmount and ask him
