I'm getting read to drop the engine into the "Sad Sub" build. Unfortunately, it arrived to me already partly scavenged. AND to make things more interesting, I've got parts of several 6.2s of various vintage lying around. AND I've got the AC lines/hoses from a Donor 90 (I think?) Sub where I harvested the rear AC with all accompanying pieces. Good times...

So, what I need to know right now is, what actually came in the 85 Sub with stock 6.2? I'm want to start there with the engine going in with a complete set of matching brackets and hardware. Then I can work from there to figure out how I'm going to get from that latter pancake compressor on the passenger side to (something?) on the drivers side.

Looking Google at hits it appears the A6 was the most common. Looking at and Rockauto, it appears that the 85 K20 Sub 6.2would have come with the long A6 compressor, or a DA6, or a R4 pancake. Well, isn't that nice.

So, if you have an 85 (or whatever years are the same) 6.2 WITHOUT rear AC, could you please provide the type of compressor and maybe pics of the fore and aft brackets?

Or, if you have an 85 (or whatever years are the same) 6.2 WITH rear AC, could you please provide the type of compressor and maybe pics of the fore and aft brackets?

Bonus points for information on the hard lines and routing.

Or, if you know and are inclined, maybe a brief explanation of what came with what, and maybe "best options" to find what I need to cobble this together?

Thanks for whatever help you can provide.

I'll take pics of mine tomorrow. I had a bracket missing that I have yet to install. Mine does NOT have rear a/c, but I have lines from one that did. They branch off near the evap box.

I have an '84 diesel burb with rear A/C. I had the long style compressor until I removed it. Exactly like what @AugustDiesel has, check his thread for pictures of proper routing.

Why are you wanting to avoid the later pancake style?

That’s the first time anyone has ever suggested that anything about my truck was “proper” ... lol.

Depending on what you’re referring to, I can also post up some pictures of my setup.

Dang I just had all that apart too to reseal the valve cover. Could have taken pics of the individual brackets. There are 3 of them. I’ll get some pics of it all together here in a few minutes and post it up.

I want the compressor on the driver's side away from the turbo, and driver side is where I have room (stock location). I will likely be using a non-standard compressor anyway (Sandin?), but wanted to get everything sorted out and installed in stock location initially. That's both to sort through the piles of bits I've accumulated, and also to get the AC system completely in place and sealed up until I can get the final AC setup figured out.

Here’s my junk.

The bracket that mounts to the block:

Which has a lower mounting point for the compressor that’s barely visible:

Almost forgot about the bracket that mounts to the back of the compressor itself:

So that’s a total of 4 brackets for the compressor, one which is shared with the PS pump. They are all needed in order for it to mount securely. If one mounting point is missing, the compressor will shake violently and start breaking bolts. Hence the new grade 8 bolts you see in my pics. 3 of the bolts/studs for the compressor brackets had broken and had to be replaced.

Nice! Thanks!

Ok, make that 4 different compressors. I've got the one sized between that one and the long A6. And the bracket I'm missing seems to be the same as the one you have on the back, but minus the spacer that goes to the over-arm coming off the intake bolts. I don't seem to have one of those in my parts piles. Wonder if it got misplaced somewhere. I see parts pile spelunking in my near future.

I'll probably just mock it up (and seal it up) with only the front bracket. That'll do what I need, and likely have to fab the back support from scratch anyway...

Never mind, I just went and looked at mine again, it's the same compressor... so same bracket, and presumably same space.

Thanks again, those pics are prefect, including the hoses and routing.

Didn't realize my lower bracket was missing until after I looked up diagrams for some exhaust bolts. I think I got one from Issam...a/c didn't work for chit without it.

I still have a couple of engines with brackets on.
I have to finish my suburban and I think the engine I put in is stripped so good thing I have a few spares mounted on so I don't have to guess. :pimp:

My '85 diesel Burb had A/C but none in the rear--the A/C compressor and condensor are missing, the brackets are still there for the compressor, but I used that location & the brackets to mount a plow pump..
I'd take pictures and post them here if it'll help, but they may not be that great, you probably wont get a good look at them..

That's how we fixed ch-46's when I first got to cherry point. I asked where the manuals were they said just go look at another bird and make it match. lol! Honest to God!!!

And they wonder why I don't fly lol....

Things have changed a bit since then, thankfully.

Thanks, it would be nice to see the other combinations, but I've got what I needed. My main goal was to figure out if the piles of brackets I have somehow would have finished mounting the OEM pump. But I now know that, unless something got misplaced, I am missing that back big offset 3 bolt bracket. Probably not a big deal unless i go with some matching compressor (or retrofit?), but that's still an unknown. Most likely switch to a Sandin, which I expect won't be able to adapt that for use that anyway.
