'85 C30 now a K20 - Grandpa's Truck

Its valspars tractor implement line, red oxide primer and low gloss black. We thinned it down and sprayed it. We used the same paint on our tri axle trailer shown in a previous picture, the trailer is several years old now and has held up awesome and we didn't prep the trailer like we did my frame.

Valspar's spray paints hold up pretty good for a spray can job, I'm sure it'll be fine on those drums....it looks good.

Frame looks good, I've had only good luck with valspars implement paint as well.

looks great. what MPG were you getting?

the 285s look good on there.

Thanks for the compliments guys. No one has really seen it yet so i haven't got many compliments so its nice to here them, keeps ya motivated.
Umm not quite 100% sure on mileage as the bigger tires threw the odo off, but from knowing how far it is up north using another vehicle and using that as a reference i was getting somewhere around 18. That is going 55 to 60 mph. Never get on the highway cause I'd probably be on the rev limiter the whole time lol. Mix of on and off road diesel (needed fuel and it was in our cans for our tractor :doah:, yes i know its illegal, but you got to do what you got to do when your tight on cash), i also use power service additive.

Weather and school have put a damper on progress but heres a little update. Pulled the front, rear glass and dash pad and got some taping done. With me going to school till 2 pm and my dad leaving for work at 2 pm its hard to make a lot of progress. After taking care of most of the time consuming small things last weekend it should be in primer very very soon. Was hoping to have it in primer last weekend but that list of things to do seemed to never end. Heres some more pictures.

Picked up the paint tonight. Should be spraying the bed and back side of fenders tomorrow. Paint is not the same red that came on the truck, but it is a factory 85' gm truck red. Its called red metallic, but i call it dark cherry metallic. Should look pretty sweet. Should have some pics up by the weekend. I can't wait to see thing thing when its done :woot:

Got the front door jam and back sides of fenders done last night. Got to skip school today to help my dad re-hang the inner fender and fender, then finish spraying. I think school today would have been better, hanging this sh*t sucks ( especially when you've already done it twice), just don't have the patience like my dad. Should see some color in the next couple of hours.

it's been a couple hours!

I know, I know. We were in the garage spraying till 11 on Friday night. Then drove till 3 in the morning to be up north for our annual fall dirt bike ride on Saturday morning. It was a loooong day.
Just got home from up there a little bit ago, just peeled the tape off and snapped some pics. Turned out great overall, no runs and only one bug got into it, little bit of dust but it turned out great for the temp paint shop that we turned out garage into.
I thought for sure we wouldn't have any dust because we taped our garage off so good and made sure the floor was wet at all times, but my dad said it will flatten out once we wet sand it. the bug stuck to it after we had 2 coats of clear so my dad said it should sand out but if not we will have to re clear the hood.
The color is exactly what i pictured in my mind. The paint has a lot of gold, aluminum, and russet pearl in it, so it looks sweet when the light hits it. Keep in mind we haven't wet sanded and wheeled it yet.

Looks like something is wrong with the site. it won't let me upload my pictures. I'll try again in a bit.
