85 GMC.....now 86 GMC

That's awesome at least you got it back. I always hope to find my old k5 I sold when money got short.

Nice you got it back.
I had an '85 red short bed before I bought the K5.
Ask about anything I can help with.
I'm going to watch this build.:popcorn:

Understand that.
Mine took 4yrs to because of time and money.

guy here in town has a 67 or 68 mustang 390/4speed.

lic plate reads goterback.

he tracked down his car after 20+ years in florida . still basicly un touched or major hacking . and was still same driveline.

he now own's the car for 2nd time and loves it even more . I see him all over in it .

and I have had the chance to work on it . its clean for a original car. :thumb:

Neat that you got it back. Was it hard to track down?

How much of it is still as you sold it?

I found it saturday night on craigslist for sale.

You can see by the pictures the difference from how I sold it to how it is. Missing rollbar(ok with me), 8" springs instead of 4", dixxie horn, same front tires and wheels as I sold it in 93....ya think those are dry rotted! Same 400SB/TH350/NP205. Seat has been recovered. Same stereo and sub box, still has the same bed mat in it. Someone added a bolt on receiver hitch. The bed has rust in it in the lower corners thanks to the bushwacker flares I put on it. Front fenders are mangled from the tires.

A doctor bought it from me in 93 to replace his old plow truck so from 93 till about 2010 he had it. Then it went to north idaho and got the used well....damn kids and their "mud" trucks. Kind of blows me away how people destory nice trucks.

Very Cool! I did the same thing too. Had mine back in college at WSU and ended up moving to Seattle. After the first kid was born, it just wasn't an easy truck for car seats so I sold it. In great condition and most thought it had 20k instead of 120k. Loved that truck. A few years later we left Seattle to Colorado.

15 years later....I found it on Craigslist still in the Seattle area. Called him up and bought it sight unseen. After some investigation, it had changed hands probably 4 or 5 times and had 300k on it now (after Carfax review). Looked similar to yours in condition, 37" tires and not running too well. After a LOT of money, it's a lot better and reliable. Down to 35's now and drives so much better! :waytogo:

Congrats on the find!

Making the power window roll down with the key off is just from moving the plug in the fuse block to a hot battery plug on the block from the power window spot. You just have to trim a tab off so it will plug in.

Uhmmmm.....I think that window working without the key on was another "custom job.":waytogo: Intentionally left that way so they could impress everyone at his awesome wiring skills. :haha:

Mine was similar to yours....pretty hacked up. 37" rotted tires on 2.5" lift, one side of drivers seat was severly bent so I need a pillow to even drive the truck, brake rotors were unbelievably worn with huge rivet dugouts....list goes on. Still though, fun to work on it and continue to improve.

I splurged on new OEM dash, instrument bezel and new carpet. Made a world of difference!

Good luck and enjoy the process!:woot:

I had a welded on hitch on a truck 1 time . carefull cutting with cut off wheel and then flap grinder wheel I cleaned up the frame to the point you never know it was welded on .

some morons just don't get how cheep and easy it is to do stuff the correct AND safe way

So....the kid took the 6" springs out of the front and put 8" springs in, the 5.5" rear block is still in the rear. Wanna know how he made up the difference in the rear? Well in total hacker style he knocked the rivets off the the rear shackle hanger, lowered it to the hitch and welded it!! Just to be safe he even welded the bolt on hitch to the frame.

hack it off and do a flip kit :D

cool to see you get it back after all those years.

Specs:
86 K1500 shortbed with 86 3/4 ton axles...semi floater in the rear, 350/700R4 and 208, 4" lift and 33's on 16x10 Welds.
