About this point I had to put the front clip back on and get everything ready to move cause we were PCSing out of New Mexico. The truck followed me through a couple of moves to Texas and then up to Montana. Life stalled the project for awhile, but progess will be had this year.
Got everything moved around enough to be able to do stuff again. Rolled in the 14 bolt and got most of the parts gathered up to build it up. Swapping the 4.11 gears for 4.88, ARB locker, and losing the drums
I believe that the 14B is one of the easier differentials to set up. Hopefully that's correct, but no worries as there is plenty of guys who can help around here.
Yeah, most of my reading/research says that this is one of the better axles to start on. I'm just gonna take my time and post plenty of picks. If I'm doing something wrong, no doubt somebody will steer me in the right direction.
Took the axle into work today and cut off the spring pads/shock mounts and get it sand blasted. Removing the spring pads took way longer than I thought. GM must not have wanted them to come off... snowy day wasn't much good for sandblasting, but I got er done. Snowy/icy roads turned my 50 min commute into 2 hrs and 15 min. By the time I got home axle looked like it needed blasted again. it's all good though. I'll just clean. It up with a wire wheel/ prime it and get to pulling the gears out to get the fun stuff out back in.
