'85 K20 "Whitey"

I took a leap and paid the money to be able to upload pics on here via my phone, so that I could start a thread. I suck at forums so it was worth the few bucks. I'll just add the $25 to my trucks total cost. Anyhow, my truck is a '85 k20 custom deluxe that had been passed around in my family for a while until I sold it about 8 years ago. Was a company truck for a fertilizer company where my uncle drove it and later purchased it, his son drove it for a while, then my dad had it, my self, and finally my brother before being sold to someone else. The truck was in awesome shape when we owned it. My dad had it repainted once, installed a goodwrench 3around 250k miles. I assume now it has close to 400k miles on it. After we sold it, a plow was mounted and from the pictures I'll post you will see the major rot that has taken place. I kept tabs on it and it finally made its way back to me. At first I didn't want it. I have been in search for a good, but not overly priced first gen blazer. I've had no luck, so this was the next closest thing for me anyways.

Only work I've done to the actual truck so far is to remove the stupid plow that aided in ruining the body on this old girl. I did purchase a '86 short box for parts, and with @82355's help and my other buddy's skid steer I got it home to dismantle.

The parts rig had a lot of little pieces I was missing or needed to replace the broken parts. The main reason I purchased it was because it had a 4" lift with nice steel braided brake lines, and a raised steering arm. I got the parts truck for next to nothing, and got Whitey for some labor swap. I sold my plow, so I'm ahead in money on th truck for now. I want to build this thing as cheap as possible so all the used parts don't bug me a bit. I will be putting the lift on, and a used set of 315/75/16 bf's for now. I need to really go over the whole truck. It'll be a slow process, as I have 2 little boys at home that take up all my time and most of my money. I live near @78SWB's work and see his truck all the time so it helps to motivate.

I finally licensed my truck and my 5 ton farm plates were only $64.00. The price difference between 3-5 ton is no difference. So I just went 5 to always be safe. Doubt I'd haul anything that heavy, but oh well. My bill of sale was $250. Sucks to suck @78SWB.

Good to see a thread started on it.

I have some more pictures from loading up that sweet shortbed.

I wish GM had figured out a little better rocker rust protection back in the day. Would have saved a lot of headaches.

Won't be making it to Tuttle. Maybe later this summer. A lot of work to do, with little time.

That day would have been a lot more work had you and Kevin not been there. I was going to attemp it all on my own. Well with Trey's help.... Haha.

Did some piddly work on Whitey this afternoon. The parts rig had good stainless trim around the grill, and had a bow tie. My truck hasn't had the bow tie since I can remember, and the stainless trim was all beat to crap. So I swapped all that out, and added the piece of air cleaner duct that is in the radiator support. This too was on the parts rig and missing from my truck. Also had to replace one headlight bezel with one I got from 78swb. Now I didn't clean up anything before I put it all on. I need to get this thing somewhat all put together and then I will go to my friends shop to use his hotsy and really do a thorough cleaning to it. My grill and bezels are on their last leg so not really worth wasting money to re paint. Planning to get the bumper from the parts rig on and then start on my lift.
