Hello Everyone!

I'm a beginner with the whole Chevy truck thing, so if you could cut me some slack, it would be much appreciated.

I know this is not the technical thread, but I don't have time to upgrade to a full-fledged member for this question. I am looking to buy an 85 Suburban tomorrow, but the current owner says it needs work done on the front body mounts. Now, being new to all this, I have no idea about what amount of labor and cost working on these include. I do not know the extent of the problem, but when I drove it yesterday, it felt pretty good.

If someone could give me some general info on this I'd be very thankful.

Cheers.

Welcome aboard. :wink1:

I really do not have a good answer as I have not done body mounts. When I pulled my core support though, the mounts up there where in bad shape. I plan on replacing them with poly mounts from ord (a vendor here). I hear it is cheaper to just buy the whole set, rather than buying just the front mounts.

There are some threads that explain how to do it. The search feature will be your friend and works well. My understanding is that you do one half at a time and that it is not a difficult job.

You probably need to puul off the bumper (none of my trucks ever have one). Then you just need a ratchet and a boxhead wrench. Use a hilift or some wood on an alligator Jack and pick up the radiator support an inch or two on one side so you can pull the pucks out and put the new ones in. Doesn't take much force, a guy could probably pick it up by hand, the whole front clip is actually decievingly lightweight.

I'm sure the truck would benefit from all the mounts being replaced. You can use pretty much the same procedure for all of them. The fronts are the easiest to do though. They're very easy to get to and there isn't any heavy lifting.
