86 blazer ignition/fueling problems

Heres some basics.

Hi,
I didn't read where you said you checked for spark. Thats the first and easiest thing to check. Pull a plug wire, stick a big phillips screw driver into the terminal end, hold it close to the alternator bracket and have a friend crank it over for one second or so. You should see a spark jump from the screwdriver to the ground. If it has a spark there, you need to check for fuel, just look into the carb and actuate the throttle, it should spray fuel from the accelerator pump into the throat.
Now, If you have both fuel and spark, Replace the "sooty plugs" they are probably fouled, and all the cleaning usually wont do any good for really fouled plugs. If you have spark and no fuel, check for obstructions in the line, including the fuel filter, then replace the mechanical fuel pump (easy and cheap). If you have fuel and no spark, check the distributor again, maybe think about getting a different on to drop in.
I just had to replace the fuel pump on my '72 because it would run for about 2 blocks and die, I could restart after about 2 minutes of sitting and cranking and it would repeat a & b. I think it was just about dead and would only pump fuel to fill the float bowl in the carb, then the truck would start and run again until that ran out.

Anyway, I hope that this helps.
