86 Coal Burner ...

timing and injector condition has everything to do with how they sound. If the timing chain is making noise, replace it....they DO fail.

If you are getting vibration transfer into the body...something is wrong.

One of my exhaust pipes are touching the t-case, and I suspect the motor mounts have seen better days, though I see no excessive movement in them doing the "power braking" test.....the Burb also "buzzes" everything,so did my VW Jetta diesel,so its likely just the nature of the beasts..

Rocking the crank back and forth with a breaker bar , I can only "feel" about 1/2" of movement,so the timing chain seems to not have excessive slop (same as the other two 6.2's I have, one in the Burb, and one with a busted crank I got for parts)..
..if it ever jumped time, that'll be "it" for this truck most likely--only I would be silly enough to attempt to swap a better engine into it--it needs a nose, the inner fenders and fenders are wasted--has a rotted bed too, about the only thing going for it is the frame hasn't rotted thru completely or broken --yet....
I'm just hoping it hangs together (and starts up) long enough to plow my driveway later on,and lasts until spring...it'll probably outlive me---but might put me in an early grave worrying about it tossing a rod or snapping the crank at a bad moment..

If mine grenades out in the middle of nowhere, then so be it. The Good Lord knows where I am and what I need before I do. He'll send that one person who can help me out. I just look at it as an opportunity to meet someone new. Remember: Rule #1, don't sweat the small stuff. Rule #2, it's ALL small stuff!

I know they get crap mileage, but are built like tanks and have a bunch of over engineered stuff ... so as I said above we'll see !
