'86 Jimmy 4in Lift, 40’s, tons, 8.1 Swap- 700r4 said PNNNNN

This is not a dedicated trail rig, but does trailer to the destination usually. I am currently in the planning phase of doing a 52/56" spring swap, and getting back to being more road worthy.
 For real?

I disapprove of this statement
Let me narrow this down.

I'm going to watch where I drive.

Add some sliders and bumpers for protection. As my family grows and changes what we want out of the vehicle also changes. We want to be able to use this truck for more than just a dented up trail truck.

So the plan is. Get the 8.1/4L80 in the truck and driving. Replace panels as time an money allows. The hood and gate are the only straight panels on the truck. It is still pretty rust free, and the tub is perfect. So once I get decent rust free panels, I will be painting the truck the factory blue with a white top. Nothing crazy on the paint, probably just a single stage. Not pulling any dents that the panels may have. Not a show truck. Something a little nicer that my family will find more appealing.

I know a guy with a blue body and white top! Still possibly available lol. I totally agree with your new vision for your rig. That's where I want mine. DD/weekend trail/camping and not totally ugly pop can.

I realized what my family really wants with that '83 Crusty Cheeto truck, we just didn't have enough seats. It's going to be reliable and have AC. I want to hop in, and go for a topless cruise on a nice summer night if I want. Then still go to the trails and knock out some rock garden or big ledges.

Does your wife share your vision of a topless cruise?

Not a mall crawler. Never. I like real rocks wayyyyy too much. I'm just tired of thrashing. Thrashing on the trail. Thrashing during the build. It's time to slow down and have nice things.

I want to harass you about this change of direction, but I have been very intentional about almost never having any form of sheet metal contact.

Glass houses full of pots and kettles and all that stuff.

CAREFUL!!! If @mrk5 sees this kind of comment, he will harass you!!
:haha::haha:

to busy pull starting those 6.2s to worry about it huh?

Nope. Traded the 6.2 for an LT1 about 6 months ago. And unlike 88% of the folks out there, I've found the 350 to be significantly less reliable than any of my 6.2s were. Stupid worthless smallblocks. :doah: :angry1:

The good news is that having a perpetually dead engine means I'm 100% prevented from encountering any form of body damage. :1zhelp:

You don't have the suburban anymore?

Lol typical campy. From the bastard child of the diesel world to the bastard child of the small block world. I swear only you could make that decision! :haha:

Hahaha. You're wrong. Even I wouldn't do that. :deal:

It's true that I did sell most of the diesels, and I did buy an LT1. But that had nothing to do with the engine and everything to do with the body that came with it. And I was pretty close to engine swapping it at the end of summer. I have no love for that engine so far. I don't understand why it was ever a hot commodity.

It never was. It died by the LS1 before it even had a chance.
