'86 Jimmy 4in Lift, 40’s, tons, 8.1 Swap- 700r4 said PNNNNN

This is not a dedicated trail rig, but does trailer to the destination usually. I am currently in the planning phase of doing a 52/56" spring swap, and getting back to being more road worthy.
The cage looks really good. I knew I had seen a bent dash bar but couldn't remember where until just now. :doah: I love the dash bar, it flows really well.

Did you ever build the frame tie ins?

Thanks, that's actually one of my favorite parts of the cage. Just tried to add a little something different.

I have not got the tie-ins done yet. Two things kinda holding me back:

1. I don't have a welder.
B. I'm kinda waiting to see what route I go with some sliders.

Shift happens

So I picked this up yesterday at a swap meet for $50:woot:

More to come....

This build thread is a direct reflection of my super ADD thought process.

So, I am possibly going to tackle my hydro-assist this weekend. I need some input on what route was taken on the PS cooler.

I've seen guys just extend the filler neck, and I have seen other guys go with the cheap Napa/Autozone external cooler.

Is there a real need for the added cooler? Is it just preference?

Also going to finish up my floor shifter mount, and possible frame tie-ins for the cage. More pictures to come this weekend.

In the meantime, any help/advise on the cooler would be great!

I have both a cooler, and the rubber hose on the reservoir. The radiator hose isn't meant for oil, and is starting to deteriorate. Of course it has been in use for several years.

Shift-tastic

Got my cable floor shifter installed/mounted last night. And before anyone laughs, this is temporary till I build a console that's tied to the cage.

Height is perfect. Hand rests right on top. Could afford a couple inches higher, but isn't uncomfortable.

Used pre existing holes from the old center console. Some 16ga steel plate. And threw it together.

Also started tearing the steering apart last night. Getting it ready for Hydro-assist and high steer. Sending the arms off to a local guy that is going to blast some 3/4 holes in the steering arms for me for free:woot:

More pictures to follow tonight.

I have the radiator hose on the pump as well. Like 82355 said, I can tell that the hose is starting to deteriorate a little, but I have had mine on for 2 years now, and it's freaking easy/cheap to get another hose. I cut the top off another pump I had laying around and just hose clamed the cap onto the top, and then hose clamed the hose to the actual pump.

I also got a cooler too. I bought a little one from summitracing.com for $32. Just do it, it's worth the piece of mind. Plus, just adding the extended hose on top will suffice for the additional fluid capacity needed, but that fluid will still heat up like crazy. Heat is not your friend in that game. Just get a really cheap small power steering cooler and be done with it.

I'm actually headed to "Nappy" Auto parts tonight to pick up a cheap cooler. I figured that either way, it needed to be done.

Any luck on those 42's yet?

Not anything yet. Been getting a bunch of quotes on pirate, and I have been trying to find a good deal on some used ones, but not finding luck. Will probably just purchase new I guess and then sell my 38.5's (if you know someone who wants them ). What sucks is interco is out of stock with a bunch of the styles (TSL, Iroc, SX2...) so I am finding it's either get the 43" SX or get 42" pitbulls. 43's are another $400 more than the pitbulls....so we will see what I end up doing. I am hoping within the month I will at least have something heading to my door.

Call Chad 417-621-8103 at Hired Gun Offroad. Tell him I sent you, and have him quote you some SX2's. That's what my buddy got on his Cherokee, and it was a crazy good deal. He owes me some deals anyways:rolleyes:

Will do :waytogo:. Do you think he has any SX2's in stock? Everyone on pirate said interco is out and has no timeline of running anymore. The SX2 42x15x16.5 is what I really want, so if he has some that would be sweet. I will probably give him a call tomorrow. Thanks for the info!

Yep, that's the exact size. He said he had 17's but was double checking that he had 4 16.5's

Had a buddy of mine that has a machine shop water jet some 3/4 in holes for my high steer.
