This is not a dedicated trail rig, but does trailer to the destination usually. I am currently in the planning phase of doing a 52/56" spring swap, and getting back to being more road worthy.
Pulled the efans and the wiring harness tonight. Way more mud in between the rad and fans that I anticipated. I’m honestly glad to be going mechanical. As much mud as we have around here, not sure how much longer those fans would have lasted.
So a question I have, do I use this radiator? Or do I need a bigger one for the big block?
What size is it? Is it as tall as the radiator support?
You will want and need a big block radiator.
Go big block or the diesel radiator.
I show big blocks could have had a 28 or 34 wide core, which one is the one to go with? The 34 wide?

I think my '81 with the big block has the 28" wide one. My diesel definitely has the wider one.
I did a 6.2 diesel radiator (bigger/wider radiator) along with a 6.2 diesel shroud. Bought the shroud off ebay. Obliviously just bought the radiator new (rockauto if I remember correctly).

What did you do for brackets?
You mean brackets that hold the radiator down? If so, I just used the stock small block ones that were already in the truck. If you look at your core support, you'll notice GM put threaded bolts on all the core supports to accepts the shorter small block radiators, or the larger BBC/diesel radiators. It was a smart move to make it that they didn't have to create two different core supports depending on what motor was going in the truck on the assembly line
yeah I'm running the taller, not wider factory radiator. With the new Autometer gauges and temp sensor (at the head) I'm at 200-210 at speed, under 200 crawlin down the trail. FiTech is showing 185-190sh at the intake manifold.
Pulled wiring, throttle and detent cable, grounds, and starter wires tonight. Only a few things left to pull.

I'm going to be dropping the front end down on some steel wheels, so that should help make this easier. Also, my brother in law is going t come over.
