'86 Jimmy 4in Lift, 40’s, tons, 8.1 Swap- 700r4 said PNNNNN

This is not a dedicated trail rig, but does trailer to the destination usually. I am currently in the planning phase of doing a 52/56" spring swap, and getting back to being more road worthy.
I bought some cheap stainless headers off eBay and they haven’t given me any problem. I’m really impressed! I think the seller was speed daddy or something?
Did they have a hole for the 02 sensor? I am also in the process of gathering parts for this same swap, manifolds are one of the last things to work out.

Installed oil pump and the pump shaft tonight and reinstalled the oil pan, only to realize I am still missing the oil drive in the lifter valley. After a little digging I found one that wasn’t $150 on eBay. Keep finding little things I was not aware this engine was missing. The bottom side of the engine is done though and ready to drop in this weekend. Then the rest can be finished up top while the truck is in the garage.

Yeah starting with a bare long block on these newer engines can really add up if you don't have a complete one to strip for all that little shit. Diesels are the same way. Almost better off getting a good long block then buying a complete junk motor for all the add-ons.

Well my progress was cut short tonight. My motor mounts from DIY4X didn’t come with nuts for the new bolts, which is mildly irritating. I’ll grab some in the morning I guess. Bolted up the flywheel and torqued it to spec. Installed the starter and was going to check compression only to find the starter is dead. So I’ll warranty that out on Monday at work. Cut rivets and removed the old engine cross member.

Ready to stab the block tomorrow and maybe get the truck pulled into the garage. Until then the 8.1 will rest here now.

My boss mentioned today that he might be interested in the old 350 that was in it, so might be off the engine stand soon.

Well it’s in. Took some persuading to get the bolt holes lined up for the motor mount. The 8.1 looks right at home in there.

And now the Jimmy looks right at home in its stall in the garage.

Took a lawn mower and a 2wd diesel, but the wife and I finally got this dead beached whale shoehorned in.

We have a lot of stuff going on this week along with a party on Saturday, so this truck is going to chill for a couple days.

A forward facing one?
Whatever it takes! Haha I was actually thinking maybe a cowl hood would help enough. :dunno: But that's probably the more expensive option versus a different layout. I'm pretty sure @Raggedy_Ann has the filter right on the throttle body, but he also has electric fans.

Isn't his a 6.0 or 5.3?
