'86 Jimmy 4in Lift, 40’s, tons, 8.1 Swap- 700r4 said PNNNNN

This is not a dedicated trail rig, but does trailer to the destination usually. I am currently in the planning phase of doing a 52/56" spring swap, and getting back to being more road worthy.
O’Reilly’s said my starter is good, but this shouldn’t be sticking out like that should it?

Tap it back in with a hammer and see if it gets stuck out again. Might get lucky......

Do you have the ability to measure voltage at the inlet to the motor? Or just at the inlet to the solenoid? It would be nice to test for a failing solenoid vs. a failing motor winding.

I assume it spun freely at Oreilly's?

Pretty sure now testing is irrelevant as it looks like you found the issue at 2.5v. If the cable has battery voltage at the end at the starter you need a starter.

Yeah if it's cranking slow and drawing a good battery down to 2.5V while cranking either it is failed and has internal issues or your engine is almost seized up and just taking that much juice to slowly spin it over. I'd do a new starter for sure.
