'86 Jimmy 4in Lift, 40’s, tons, 8.1 Swap- 700r4 said PNNNNN

This is not a dedicated trail rig, but does trailer to the destination usually. I am currently in the planning phase of doing a 52/56" spring swap, and getting back to being more road worthy.
If I don't have the correct crimper, sometimes I'll use the closest one I have, get it holding mechanically, then solder the crimp. You just don't want the solder wicking back to the insulation crimp, because the wire gets brittle. That connection performs just fine, it just takes more time.

Crimpers came in yesterday. So now I have the tools to finish these weather pack connections.

More progress tonight!

Finished mounting the fuel pump relay using an existing bolt. Mounted the fuse box and routed some wiring. Then ran the CEL and diag port through the firewall and mounted it on the dash using some previous holes from an old brake controller.

Anyone see any issue with mounting the relay like this? It clears the hood, and is mounted higher like I wanted. Also used an existing bolt.

That should work. Mine had the same fuse panel in it. I was concerned that the fuse panel was not weathertight, so I swapped it out for a sealed unit.

I most likely will once I get this fired. Plan to try and hear some vroom noises this weekend.

Oh yeah, it's not like it won't run with it. As a matter of fact Larry's Burb still has that fuse panel in it. He did some stuff to it to be more water resistant, but it's been in there for a long time. No issues.

I did mine prior to putting in the harness as I had the time. It can totally be done later if you want to.

Good plan!
And keep in mind how many vehicles from what, mid nineties and up, have unsealed fuse panels under the hood with just a cover.

It's all about how they are mounted for intrusion and drainage.

So as I’m sitting here drinking my Sunday morning coffee going over my builds, I just made the realization that the fuel pump I currently have for this truck isn’t going to be enough for the 8.1 is it?

It’s only rated for 45psi and 48gph. That’s not going to cut it in the “more fuel needed” area correct?
