86 K10 Front Spring replacement

So ive finally had time to switch my springs out....I ordered factory replacement 3 leaf spring packs for this truck...well tell me this isn't how factory leafs worked on the front of these rigs

Also I whipped up a set of longer shackles and ive got the spring eye in the 3" longer hole and when I jack the axle up so that the truck just lifts off the stand, the front is going to actually sit a little lower than my old springs...surely this new setup is wrong....right??

Well I put the tire back on and set it on the ground...it actually sits the same height. I jumped on the front bumper and it actually gives and moves instead of being solid like before. And with that bump stop behind the axle on the bottom of the frame, I could see this setup working..with the negative arched spring.

Still like some info on whether this is how it was stock or not. If this is correct ill prob add zero rates to set it a little higher..

So did you order those from Stangelbros? Care to share how much they were?

I'm curious to hear how it rides. Just about no one buys new stock springs. Everyone goes for the lift. I have a DD burb and I would like to freshin up the ride, but don't really NEED a lift. I'll be fallowing this to see how you like it. Are you going to put some new shocks on while you're at it?

No you guys are gonna laugh...I got them from jc whitney...only because they had a free shipping promotion going on..they were the same ones I was going to get from rock auto, but u cant beat free shipping on heavy leaf springs. Got them for 90 each to my door but I think rock auto has them for around 120-130 I think plus shipping.

My shackles are temporary now because I thought the bolts were 1/2 so I punched the holes 9/16...turns out that they are 7/16ish bolts so the holes are a bit sloppy for my taste. So ill remake without all the holes just 8" shackles. Now the shackles are 1/4" plate. Ill prob make the new ones out of 5/16 and put a cross between the two sides. Should be plenty for a work truck

fyi also to long a shackle = bad caster and driving / handling problems.

Ya ive been driving it around town all afternoon with no issues. Other than I need a sway bar now lol. No death wobble at speed or under hard braking. Ive only had it up to 70 which is as fast as I spin that motor. Gots loww gears in the axles

So far its a lot better than what I had. What I had appears to be original 3leafs with an add a leaf. Not sure if it was a true add a leaf or a leaf from another pack. But in order to keep the truck level with the new factory springs I had to run an 8" shackle over the stock 4" shackle.

Also my shocks are fairly new. I know that they are about 4" longer than the ones for a bone stock k10, but other than that I have no clue what they are.
Keep in mind I bought the truck at this height and want to keep it there. I really don't like the long azz shackles...looks kinda goofy and im kinda afraid im gonna hit stuff with them. So ill prob run a zero rate and a 6" shackle. That should keep it were it is but use shorter shackle.

all that extra work / parts / time .

should have just done 2" springs in the front like we said before.

Well some of us don't have the SWEET budget u do so we have to do things a little differently. Ill be making my new shackles and zero rates so I will still come in cheaper
