86 updates

i did it how it was easy for me but a pain,

1. remove windshiled and gasket

2. cut off 8 inches or so, use the spot welds as referance since they are close

3. cut less than needed off windshield "cap" to go on

4. re-install windshield and gasket but with out the top "cap"

5 test fit 73-75 "cap" peice, trim little by little untill she is snug on the gasket and lines up with your cuts on the windshield pillars

6. shove a 3/4 or 1 inch tube in the windshild frame, plug weld on the cap and pillar

weld er up a stich at a time

and add rockers as the non full convertable did not have full rocker boxes, this keeps the truck from falling in on its self/saging

i was woundering about the rear shackles. what did you use to make them? how are they working out? any problems with the driveshaft coming out of the transfer case? they seem like they work good. any info on this would be great. I want to get real shackles for my blazer. looks good even smashed up.

the rear suspension consist of ford 57 inch springs and a suspension that rides on a bump stop but can unload and increase the amount of travle significantly. it has pros and cons for sure,

over all I like it, I just wound up usig a limiting strap to controle it better,

the guy who made it def thinks a bit out side the box.........:D

could you take some closer pics of the ak57 setup? im still struggling to figure out whats so advantagous over a regular flip?:doah:

so the tubing you put where the rocker was...wasn't just made to be a slider then ,huh.....did you cut the inner and outter rocker out and add that tubing to keep the truck from folding in on itself. you said you have the ends tied into the body mounts..can you get a pic of that so we can see how you did it...and why not tie the ends back into the frame, and triangulate into the body mounts? i would just like to see how you did it. and what size tubing did you use for your rocker replacement?

sorry tires are xl's

the sliders are add beef to make up for chopping the roof, the 79-72 and 73-75 blazers had rocker boxes for added support

pics later, need to get a new camera:crazy:

Hey shawn,
Whats the name of the color you used? Do you have the color code?
I have been wanting to paint my K5 a green like that for years I think I just may take that plung and do it?

the paint is just a color I picked off a color chart and had made, I started by looking at colors plymouth had in 70 and 71 and then compared those to paint chips and chose a color.

at first when I painted it I stood back and went ewwwwwwww and then it grew on me, others say the same, I like it:D

the pics above of the water were about 2/3 of the way in, we came to a water hole that had no bypass, I have been here before in my cherokee and there was never this much if any water, turned out to be pretty deep, I shut it off and desided to get tugged out verse getting my feet soaked in the cold winter water, we broke the ice on top entering it..very cold. the two other rigs were jeeps with no more then 4 inches of lift so we had to turn around.

after the water/mud deal my slave cylender pushed the pistin out so I lost my clutch, the whole way out I had to use luck and hope not to get hosed, also made it back through squeez on 1 try..with plenty of throttle and just the right amount of luck..

I got very lucky, with no clutch and ice on the ground it would have been a night mare to get trough.

my mom went on this trip..she is more and more liking 4 wheeling..and thinks im nuts!

I'm digging this build, got any updates? What happened to the passenger 1/4 in the last set of pics? Kevin

I sold it last April..its dead..but it could live again with some intensive surgery in the trauma unit

well the guy who bought it, well..his dad bought it for him..

anyways..

he stuck some 38x15x15.5 tsls on there.. and killed the front end and locker..he then added some crappy 52's up front.. and then the second or 3rd time he used it he killed the motor. so now it looks like sheeeeeeeet and has no motor.

Now him and his dad want to put a 67-69 camaro body on the frame:doah:

I just bought a running "well kind of" 79 blazer with a manual for 500 bucks but the body is shot. So my plan are to buy back the body and cage for a few hundred bucks. Use the cage and some of the rocker material.. and then get another non rusty non trashed body to put it on and then graft on the windshiel frame. I already horse traded for some 3/4 tons axles..and its most likely going the same color.:D

I am tempted to just repair the rear fender and use the 86 body but i dont know if I feel like dealing with 86 emssisons and the surgery needed for the rear fenders is a pita.

this is a buid I am doing for a 15 year old who is like a little brother to me.
