87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

my first truck build back in the mid 80's was a 78 Powerwagon that i built in a dirt floor barn.... I put the 340 in by using a come-a-long to the overhead beam and rolling the truck under it... :doah::haha:

thanks Vin, hopefully we'll be hooking up next summer some time... :D

I finally got through the entire build thread. WOW. Seriously nice work, man.

btw, I still need a clean pickup tailgate, someone hook a brother up!!!!!

I have a VERY clean tailgate that came off my k10. I know guys usually say "shipping would kill it" but if you're interested PM me and we can make it work. I'd rather see it go to a good place than scrap it.

HOLY S, I just made it to the end of the thread!! That is some awesome and inspiring work! I've been reading through for about a month now, and can't believe the amount of information I've picked up just reading your thread!

THANKS for sharing!

Hey! If you want Avery4jc's tailgate, Ill bring it to you. I'll be moving some people from San Francisco to Boston starting next week, and will detour to get you the gate, let me know.

I've been a hard core lurker on this site since joining a couple months back, but this I had to comment on! It's been said over and over, but this truly is a community of outstanding people. :waytogo:

Rock on CK5ers!

Awesome build btw! :bow::bow::bow::bow:

Man AJ!! I totally need that for my blazer. It's not as nice as ryoken's is going to be, but it will have a softopper on it shortly.

I can make a deal if you are interested.

Let me know.

Thanks,
Buddy

Maybe I should've pm'd you? Whatever dude. I'll figure something else out.

Later,

Buddy

I think he's referring to you doing the 2-step all over my toes...

I didn't respond til after you had turned it down. Sorry for cluttering up your thread.

Later,
Buddy

I didn't turn it down, had already worked it out with Avery...

Re: your car-puter...

I'm still looking at doing the same. Now that the Android (Linux) operating system can be installed on desktops and laptops, it may be worth a look. It's seriously looking to be THE next big platform. Even some OEMs are looking at using it as the basis for their vehicle's entertainment and navigation systems.

It's got a MUCH simpler, less "computer" interface that may work better in an automotive application. I've just started to explore the idea, but found several forum threads in a Google search about this very subject.

Oh yeah... Android's Nav software ROCKS compared to the Sprint-branded navigation app included with my new Evo phone. I have the Android app, Sprint Nav and Google maps (with GPS support) on the phone. The Android Nav wins hands-down, it does turn-by-turn with a computerized voice, just like a stand-alone GPS does, and has the smoothest motion I've seen on a GPS. I think I like it better than my stand-alone Sony GPS (which I chose after seeing the Tom Tom and Garmin offerings).

And, of course, being that this is a Linux-based smartphone platform, it multi-tasks well. You could be listening to music while running the GPS, or surfing the web, viewing pics or movies, etc... Very nice.

I plan to dual-boot my netbook soon with Android to test out its feasibility for this application, but I think we may have a winner here. I just searched this thread, and realized it's been almost a year since the subject was discussed. A lot's happened since then. :)

I'll put up some links when I get more info. In the meantime, keep it in the back of your mind... ;)

please do... hopefully this'll be the first project on the rig next summer when it's back driving...

Problem with Android, (which is a great low power OS) is that it couldn't run the tuning software for the meagsquirt. It is based on Linux, but it is far removed in operation. If Ryoken wasn't planning on using the carputer to run the tuning software, then Android might be a great touch centered OS to run.

thanks... hopefully it'll be less reading and more pic goodness in the next week or so..... got alot of different stuff flying right now...

Does the megasquirt software need to run all the time? If not, maybe dual boot?
