87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

had no idea they ran one in the Vette... afaik, standard HUD stuff is just projected at a translucent panel of some sort... HUD displays have been in fighters for a long time...

The SSEI Bonneville's have them as well. According to my sister it is a bit distracting and so she keeps it turned off. Small projector is mounted on the dash and displays up on the windshield.

There isn't a projector or anything in the Bonnevilles, GTPs, Corvettes, and I think it may have been used in a few olds/buick cars, but maybe the ones I've seen were transplants... It is just a reflective area on the windshield that allows you to see the display in the dash. I used to drive an '01 SSEi and LOVED the hud! The Corvette hud is much more sophisticated than what the Pontiacs received. I seem to remember the one in my old SSEi would do speed, high beams, radio station/cd track, and I think turn signals.

It may not be a projector but there is a module that shines on the windsheild to do the display. Also they have something special in the windsheild glass forget what it is so that you can see it.

Avery rocks...... :D

tailgate.jpg

It feels surreal seeing a tailgate that I have seen in California end up across the country and shown on one of my favorite threads.

This build wouldn't be possible without the brotherhood....

I've got a room full of parts to prove it! :haha:

thanks to Avery I now have a stupid clean GM stamping that in Joysey is like gold... :woot::pimp::bow: I need to put a small order in with LMC pair of arms, trunions, etc to mount it up......

when I get to some part waiting, drying parts on the priority jobs, and the toolwall is done, I may start on the back... all i need to mount the gate and build the back bumper/carrier, etc is a $75 LMC order and a 10' hunk of 2" tube...

Awsome.
You got to love the brotherhood really helps you out like that.

it may already of been asked.. i havent read through the entire thread yet.. i see alot of talk of electric goodies... do you have any waterproofing in store for all of that stuff... you know... just in case hah

that's a somewhat tricky question... with what I do for a living, my stuff is generally going to be more waterproof than most with the use of all the marine components/techniques I use...

waterproofing/corrosion control has always been a major consideration in all, or most of my work... evident in everything from priming to the electrical conduit/fittings to the fiberglass rear panels to my electronics box...

most of the truck will be "waterproof" due to the electrical materials, etc, moreso than "sealed"... tho there are some areas that will be close to sealed (box in engine compartment for solenoids, relays, etc, loom, pc area}.. I can basically take a hose to anything in the truck.. the only areas i will be "avoiding" spraying with a hose directly are the LCD and up in behind the glovebox area...

I figure with fans off, I could conceivable run with about a foot of water in the cab before having issues... me, sitting in water being one.... :haha:

Me too, my ass gets wet, I'm backing out:dunno:

I sent you a PM to see if it ever showed up but I guess I should have checked here first, so ignore that PM. :D
Glad it made it's cross country journey safely! That sucker was in my scrap pile so I'm glad it's going to be put to use. I had those latches and stuff too at some point in time but couldn't find it when it came time to ship the tailgate. :dunno:

held up well, little tear on one corner, but the gate was fine..... now i just need to strip/prime/paint it... thanks again bud..

eh, come on, Shawn, you bang out more stuff in 10 hrs than anyone! I remember the days when I did the all nighters, etc... too decrepit and too little energy these days.... could do more, but I try to be somewhat diligent....

hopefully by next weekend I'll be bangin some hrs... I'm having a home inspection, so the house and dungeon are very clean at the moment, and I'm doing no work... once he comes in next week, it'll be back to the grind/dust-fest... :haha:

Not so much lately, if I have a deadline though I sure do get some 10-20 hours of solid motivation somehow though:thumb:

The buggy project should fire up soon and I am hoping I take a lesson from yourself and Graig and go with some quality and completion over crazy deadlines.

These projects truly are fascinating though, what I take from it is this.

-New people to the sport or with mild rigs see full blown projects or big builds and mention how they cant wait to start on their truck and rip into it.

- People who have been in the grind, seen the back stage headache and challenges that come with a non bolt on parts... envy the people who are actually enjoying their simple builds and wheeling rather than day after day of building.

I would not trade it for the world as I still somehow enjoy this, but I sure do love sometimes to just hit the 4x4 button on my daily driver and go exploring the old fashion way with no big production involved.

yeah, it is daunting on occasion... for as much as I miss driving the truck, I do enjoy the creative process... thats probably pretty evident in the design ideas I come up with..

I've pushed hard, never built something with the amount of labor I have in this.. and I'm gonna push even harder over the winter to get it done...

since the shop has been clean, i've been farting around with some more trivial projects..... laying out the interior lighting last night.... it's gonna be sick.... :woot:

wow, that blows... Interco stopped making 38 x 15.5 x 16.5 TSL radials.... I was really happy with that tire decision.... I'm sure there are a few kicking around if i act quick...

was looking to start rotating a new pair of fronts on, and put one of those to a spare..... thought they'd be a perfect candidate for some grooving/siping...

what other 37 or 38 x 16.5 radial is out there? I really want to run radials if possible due to the street time...

I hate to say it, but f-swampers for the street.

Maybe I am still sour about spending 2000.00 for never would balance no matter what irok radials.

Id look at some pitbulls anyday if you want that rim size.
