87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

i have read 101 pages of your build so far today. i'm still reading the rest and all i can say is wow. the attention to detail, you can't put into words some of the stuff you have done. i thought replacing all the floor pans in my truck was work. great work bringing this blazer back into shape.

hey thanks for the interest....

it's weird.... when EVERYTHING is custom... you just become resolved to having to fab in every task/item you go thru... now tieing up all the loss-ends to get it ALL in prime has been very tedious... :doah:

It has been very intresting watching the fab work you have done.

Great work:bow::bow:

You have help push me to do more then I might have before.

I have found out on mine, how tedious and time consuming the little detail stuff can be.

thanks... it's definitely tedious doing alot of the work.. the sanding, smoothing, sanding primer, locktite, where's that bag o' hardware, etc.... one thing about being trained in resto/collision, etc it's faaaaar easier to cut corners, when you know the priorities...

I'm obviously one of those guys that will sand, whatever a hidden panel perfectly cuz "I know it's that way"... as opposed to the the "eh, you'll never see it" types... but when you know the right way to do it, you can interject a bit of "eh, you'll never see it" here and there when needed/lazy/hungover... :haha:

but the concepts i come up with, I will achieve.... take an easier route building here and there sometimes, but the end picture will be achieved... and that's 95% of the mods.. glovebox, consoles, e-box, dash, etc... toolwall, the airpan, batts, et all...... :haha:

:bow::bow: As always...just AWESOME. Still can't wait to see the finished project, as if there will be a truely "finished" project. And...don't take this the wrong way (please), can't wait to see the first "rub" on the truck...personality you know!! That rub will probably be short lived though with your body work experience!!

Keep it up and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!:waytogo:

things should start moving along good now..... over the next couple weeks I'll be shooting orange, copper and finally black.... yay me! :haha:

What a huge hurdle to get this far Paul, I happy for ya mang.

yup, plenty ahead, still got a bunch of seamsealing and sanding to do.... but that was a BIG deal.. thanks... :D

it'll be soooo much easier to make progress with the cage and interior painted.... once i get all the fiberglass panels thru the satin black, I'll be cranking! :woot:

btw...... couple points of interest and folly.....

is the height I'm shooting for when done.. turns out, it's leveled out at legal door height as it sits right there...

also gotta pick up another gallon of primer for the hood/airbox, rad support, spot-in's, etc..... went thru a gal yesterday... broke out the 3 gallon pressure pot... hose-fed gun is the ONLY way to shoot an intricate section of angles like that for coverage...

thankfully I'm basing the cage in rattlecan... and i'll use a gravity feed for the copper... but i'll definitely be breaking the pot out for the satin black! :woot:

still need to mount my back 4 cage flange backing plates... since i have some, I'm thinking of shooting some Imron clear over the orange rattlecan cage stuff with a touchup gun...

my body and progress on the rig would absolutely LOVE to get layed off for jan/feb..... i'd get sooooooo much done..... but the always demanding parts train would come to a screeching halt....... :doah: :haha:

Coming together VERY nicely. :waytogo: That looks like it was a LOT of work getting it to primer with all the little finishing touches there are to do.

eesh, more sanding and shaping, rolocing, grinding then i care to remember... the last welding done where the studs for my twinstick cable boot hole... hard to work on MANY of the cab/cage/dash areas...... friggin cab is a gad dum jungle gym... :eek1: :haha:

then i decided to radius all the angles of the floor with Duraglass to help keep it smooth for rinsing out... it came out sick, but was a bunch of work.. still need to seamseal the bottom of the firewall and cargo step...

gotta figure out if I'm just gonna run herc over paint on the lower "pan" section, or get some Line-X'y, Lizard skinnish type product in there... should work out sweet meeting up with the smooth composite panels... texturally contrasting! :doah::rolleyes::haha:

oh, and here's how the twin cable grommet goes...

2 layers of conveyor belt go under that holddown ring and the cables go thru the belts...

and here's an idea of how the Megasquirt board will be... obviouly it'll be nutted and washered on the studs...

what does my fellow "might as well"er think of the cable boot? is it just "over the top", or "couz needs a straightjacket" over the top?

I'm running 2 layers of 1/4" conveyor belt.. gasketpunched holes for the cables, then each layer will be slotted in opposite directions to the outer edge...

standard grommets just seemed not as "bulletproof"........

You know, I've always thought that copper color was decent looking, but have never been a huge fan of it, it looks alright to me. But you need to paint your K5 that color, it's kind of synonymous with your build at this point.

Both you guys passed the "couz needs a straightjacket" mark many moons ago.... but in a good way. :waytogo:

It sounds like a better solution if you ever needed to run a new cable or repair anything with crimped or soldered ends on it. A nice Earls pass-through bulkhead fitting works good for cables or hoses, but with a bulky end fitting you'd never get it through the hole without cutting the ends off again. You're idea seems to support future servicing much better.

yup... :D it was the same way when i was working out what i wanted to do about a dash when i went to put my cage in.... for as sweet as kert's dash is, and as cool as a caged, flat panel custom dash is... i felt my bezel was the start of it all for this rig.... so i felt a loyalty to working around that... :haha: and i'm really glad i did.... working the factory dashpad in with the custom stuff..

gimme a couple weeks and you'll see some photo's with color in the cab, seats, console panels, etc and i think the look i was shooting for will really show.... :deal:
