87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

I'm sorry Paul, it all looks like crap and I think you should hurry up and finish it. Then you can send it to me for proper disposal. :haha:

I sure enjoy seeing updates on this build, one of the most detailed I have ever seen.

bloggish day in the life stuff for your amusement..... just some random shots I took today at work...

Not yet :D

Shoot I can't like everything on your truck, I will withhold final judgment until all the lights are behind it.

If that's the only thing I don't like on your truck you are doing pretty good. I am extraordinarily talented at picking a truck apart

I'll keep trying! :haha:

the OR lights out on the bumper will be a ways off...

I was kinda hoping this one would win ya over...

i can picture it with the copper hood, OR lights out front.... stoked..... :haha:

I will admit when I picture it all painted up (hood and stuff) with the lights behind it and all the blinkers and such its not bad.

Lemme just say this, it doesn't look bad. :D:D:D

How did you mount the grill to the truck? I don't see any mounting points. I like the NATO plug as well (it's what I was going to do). Where did you find the parts? I'm having a hell of a time finding them. Also, why did you order two air filters? Moroso and a K&N?

Right now I'm trying to work on an almost duplicate grill for my truck, just need to find a way to mount it since I don't have access to someone who can mold a 3/8" rod for me to have someone else to weld it to LOL

it's all good.... everybody likes different stuff.... some people detest cowl hoods... I'm digging how it's coming together and that's the objective.... helps the ole motivation factor.... :doah: :haha:

ok, mounting....

there are now 7 of these incorporated into the grill, 4 across the top.. 3 on the bottom... they are all 3/8 course...

the 4 across the top bolt into these tabs i sectioned in the rad support... drilled hole, welded nut on back...

there's a link in that post below the pic to the place I saw the Nato plug at....

the reason for 2 air cleaners is my airpan is being designed for a 6" tall filter.... the carbon fiber setup is a low filter.. so it was either a dry 6" replacement element or the K&N added to replace it.. i decided on the K&N for moisture reasoning.... I'm also gonna be running one of their prefilters... so when done, i'll have a leftover 3" tall x 14" dry element and the bottom of the carbon fiber setup leftover...

I really found if it is mounted externally, ya HAVE to have a frame for it... the expanded is just STUPID sharp... now i saw crash did his on a pre 80 clip and managed to mount it to the backside of the grill.. eliminating the sharp edge scenario.. maybe he'll chime in...

I'm gonna have to go with blazinzuk on the grille... but then again I love the look of the factory grille in the mid 80's rigs.

I love everything else about the build except the Taylor Wires... :doah:

oh, and for the record... looks aside.. the grill is rediculously strong... I'll just say, the mounting came out seriously beefy....

Why are you using Taylor wires? Just to satisfy my own curiosity...

not a dis on MSD whatsoever.. I recommend your stuff all the time... eventually I'll be turning to you for my dizzy and crank trigger..

I just wanted the 10.4's... i like that extra layer on it... iirc, MSD only does 8.5's... basically the 10.4 without that extra layer.. or am i mistaken? and i've always liked taylor wires also......

Yup the highest we go is the 8.5mm...

Just curious is all as I'm just kinda loyal to MSD stuff for some reason. :waytogo:

8.5 seems to work on 8,000 HP Top Fuel dragsters running daul 44 amp magnetos so I figure they're good enough for my fire breathing 330 horse TBI motor. :D

-Taylor makes a good wire though. Not taking anything away from them.

Great build by the way.

God?? Is that you??? I didnt know your name was Ryoken?? lol

Looks sick man, i love the expanded grill, its way cooler than a billet or something aftermarket that ive ever seen. :thumb:

I'll admit that I was not on the Ryoken grill train from the beginning, but now it is starting to grow on me......slowly :eek1: :D

Now that it's in black, it goes really well with the uber bumper. I just don't think that you could have pulled it off with a stock bumper. It's all the extra fab that kinda makes it fit.

Once again Paul, Good work..:pimp:

thanks.... :D

yeah, I've run your wires on many vehicles and have always been pleased.. had some taylor ones back in the day and thought i'd give the 10.4's a shot...

I've actually been over on your site a bunch lately figuring out what trigger and dizzy i'll want with the megasquirt eventually...

my thought too, the bumper really helps it...... i had no idea how it was gonna look.. but it is growing on me more and more.. hopefully when all said and done, it'll impress me... :haha: thanks :)
