87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

The pushlocks suck! You don't need the pliers unless it's over 200 psi or something, no clamp needed. But just getting the things put on there is a total PITA. I used them for my EFI fuel lines, and I will never use them again. Standard AN fittings are actually easier to use. I did like the black fiber braided line though.

yeah, any system we use pushlocks on is a mild pressure system... oil exchange systems, etc... we don't clamp em... reusables on anything else..

I've always found it exceptionally helpful if ya warm the end of the hose up with the heat gun... but it's definitely one of those "get it all the way on in one shot" gigs...

thanks Max, appreciate it... should get a few double takes from the uninitiated masses... :haha:

they'll sit like that for awhile, just gotta bring home some plastic hydro plugs for the ports... plumbing for that is a bit down the road.. doing the 60 next....

next Summit toys will be a new rad... and maybe headers.. then the coolers/plumbing...

oh, and you guys are probably getting pretty good at "seeing" what it'll end up like on my rig...

any naysayers to the fitting/hose selection? i know steelbraided is a bit much, but i LOVE the durability.. and I'm not sold on the black version of it being as tough...

but more on the lines of the end look... the alternating color thing? good choice, or a bit "much" ? :ears:

I dont know. It might seam "much" if it actually looks like you did it to make it look pretty. But if it looks like you made it pretty on accident, then it would be cool.

sheesh, I can't believe I didn't get abused over that one since I posted it.... :haha:

I went back to work and thought to myself "a bit much"? :doah: I guess the whole build is a little over the top to begin with... to most at least...

in my eyes, for as obnoxious and circus wagon-y of a build as it is, I'm trying to do component color, materials, etc in a somewhat tasteful manner.... makes sense, looks good... alot of black... sporadic color, copper, red and necessary silvers... :screwy:

now the future 41 Willy's I'm gonna do with the dayglo green frame.... that's "going for" over the top.. :haha:

well, see that's it... I want the high end quality reusables, and that opens up the choices... silver, black, red, blue, yada, yada.... don't think i want red fittings... i think black is a bit more, blendy, understated....

I could just make up some zinc-plated fitting, blue hosed Parkers from work... but it's not that much more for the ano-tuffs and steelbraided... little better durability and I think it will look a ton better.. :dunno:

Are those just regular motor oil filters? What brand are they? How the hell did you relocate the Trans and PS filter? I thought the Trans filters were pretty much built into the pan. I'm curious how you did the PS as well.

yup, standard chevy spin on filters.. 3/4" /16 center... these are napa gold 1515, but that crosses to a Wix 51515...

the trans is in addition to the pan filter... but regular changing of the spin-on keeps the in-pan one stupid clean....

ps gets a little complicated due to the extensive system I'm gonna run... aftermarket pump feeding hydroboost brakes, the box and assist, cooler and filter, all being fed by a remote ressy... I've got a diagram i drew up here on the comp somewhere.. if I dig it up I'll post it...

Not too much for me...atleast not on your rig!:D

Seen a 41 willys driving by a car show last weekend,it was set up like a gasser, and painted gray primer, wanted to check it out but didn`t have time. To bad it looked cool.

Can`t wait to see what you do with one. That is my favorite hotrod ever.

it's Earl Perform-o-Flex

here it is with my old trans filter and fittings...

I'll be running the same setup for my heater hoses... perform-o-flex and the black fittings to the billet bulkhead fitting...

^ This....

From an aesthetic point-of-view I'd keep those hoses and fittings black and let them fade into the background, and let other more noteworthy items in the engine compartment stand out more.

I think a lot of people get the aesthetics wrong... Choosing to highlight random components that don't make sense (purple split loom wire covers, yellow steering box, lime green spring shackles, chrome plated fuel filler door, hot pink windshield wiper arms) :doah::haha:

The engine and accessories are the "star" of the engine bay....or at least they should be. With too many competing colors and finishes, you will distract the eye and lose visual impact amid all of the fussiness.

Lovin' the elegant and functional remote filter setup! :thumb:

awesome to have ya chime in Greg... hope fatherhood is treating ya well...

so your thinking steelbraided hose is a bit distracting?

there are definitely circumstances where I agree... one of the reasons I think I can get away with it here is the liberal use of black already on the truck.... frame, rad support, wheelwells...

the other factor being the beef... nothing tells me someone is serious about there junk like real steelbraided hose and accompanying fittings... it's something I'll never deny someone..

what would you guys think of the black fittings and black Pro-Lite 350 hose?

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EAR-352010ERL/

I have concerns... nylon as opposed to steelbraided... it's actually a bit more coin than steelbraided... the 1/2 weight savings aren't something I'm concerned with... I'm also concerned with how well it'll stay clean looking.. real steelbraided ime is super easy to keep good looking..

hehe, I built something elegant! :woot: :saweet:

Did you say you made a chart of how you will be running the lines? I think I still like the stainless lines better than the black ones, but if its gonna be a hectic amount of hoses running all over run the black, but I know it wont, I imagine it will be pretty darn organized if you are doing it, and if they are ran nice and "elegant" lol, I think the stainless will be nice!!

hunted it down... excuse the goofyness of the locations, etc... it really wasn't drawn for the public, but me.... when built, the rezzy is all the way at the top, right under the hood with a short fat direct feed down to the pump....

I'm a fan of always running filters after coolers on any system.. I feel it helps keep the fluid a bit cooler...

Paul,

It really depends on how the whole engine compartment color scheme ends up. Obviously if you already have a "sea of black" components then some brightwork will be welcome. I'm definitely not a fan of the red and blue anodized fittings except maybe on a pure race car. I was happy to see that Earls now offers a more reserved selection of black and gunmetal fittings and braided hoses in black... Though not steel braid, probably fine for a street vehicle.

I personally prefer engine compartments with a minimalist look.....hidden wiring, and discreetly plumbed hoses. I draw the line at the modern car setups that plop a big plastic cover over the whole engine to make it look like a nuclear reactor or solid billet blob. :D

Ps. Fatherhood is awesome. Ive got a bunch of baby pics in my Photobucket account....I think you've probably noticed those already.

hmmm, actually photobucket hasn't been updating me to your uploads...

yeah, the old school red/blue fittings really need to be the right app imo... thats why i went with the silver endura's on the previous setup.. blend it all a bit....

i wish they had the real steelbraided hose available in like a black powdercoat version.. instead of the nylon i posted.. tho i'm guessing that pro-lite 350 stuff i posted is pretty damn good....

i'm a little torn on that, think i'll pull that trigger as components are getting installed, etc..

There is a fine line to drawn between too minimalist and having access to everything you need to work on(wiring and plumbing), but sometimes, having a clean engine bay is a blessing to work on with all the plumbing and wiring out of the way.

BTW, what is up with those stupid plastic covers on modern cars? When you pop the hood, you should see the engine, not another "cover". That's what the hood is for. You should see the engine in its naked glory.
