from the quick bit of looking i did, looks like the 101.... models weren't manufactured until the late 1950's

though it seems "Atlas" made lathes of this type as early as the 1930's, and some were sold by sears under the craftsman name...

Not sure on the quality of craftsman lathes but generally speaking the WWII lathes are some of the best. We had 10 or more lathes at my last job and every one of them was from 1940's-1960's. All of them dead nuts and threaded nicely. Not a bad piece for free.

I've got one for wood as well. Can they be swapped out for a metal blade?

Yup... Just make sure you put some sort of lube on the blade. IMO theres no need for wood blades. Metal blades cut wood just fine...

Ryoken:

Be careful with harbor freight dude. You can pretty much count on anything electric from them burning up. My brother has a band saw from them and it's on it's second motor. Your better off buying a used brand name saw from a shop.

He also has a drill press from there that can't hold a 1/16" even with pilot holes and center punching.

thanks....

yeah, I definitely watch what I buy from HF.. my 25 lb sandblaster ended up a good buy, but I certainly wouldn't buy wrenches there.. usually I just use them for consumables, grinding discs, etc..

the horizontal bs was one that I had heard good things about.. chitty blade but other than that, pretty solid machine... it looked solid, but who knows on the motor....

it's just soooo damn cheap! :haha:

that'd be a luxury anyway... can't envision buying any more tools this year.. other than maybe setting myself up with a decent torch setup...

too many parts left to buy....

and yup, already sidetracked.. just got done cleaning/rebuilding the carriage... :doah::haha: gotta pick up a qrt of black Rusto..

anyway, nope, gonna POUND the truck this weekend.. lots-o-tube to bend! :saweet:

Stevo.. seems to be a good amount of parts available for the lathe... the Atlas stuff is the same from that era... which does appear to be late 40's, early 50's as you found .. didn't think it was that old, I'm not complaining, they built chit right in those days... quite happy with $125 spent on the 2...

Wrenches are on my list of things I will buy from them. 30 bucks for 3/8's through 1 1/4 wrenches with a lifetime warranty.

Spare bedroom, what is this you speak of? I don't think I have ever heard of such a thing, at least not in my house. :haha:

Are you going to cut the bottom of your doors or just cutting out the rocker? Looks great so far!

no boatsiding.... the sliders will be right under the door... like this..

sectioning005.jpg

the sliders will basically will be mounted/welded to the underside ends of that support I just put in, running up to the new ones up front.. hopefully I can get those in next weekend.... should be, let's use the overused term "stout" to say the least....

I am doing staked cage tie-ins too.. something like these, but my tube will have a bolt-on flange at the frame end too...

nope, never actually got the big plastic Y-diverter back in there before I took it back off the road...

I did eyeball it up tho, need to go from a round peg to a square hole, as the heater has the round output, and the diverter is rectangular.. but I'm pretty confident it can be done with a little work.. may be as simple as using the flexy hose stuff you can get for the heater and stretching it around the diverter opening, couple screws, or a zip tie...

I'll be getting back to this in a few months.. when the tunnel/floor is getting finished up, I'll be mocking all that up.. I was pretty damn impressed with the heat that thing throws...I think it's pretty much up to par with the stocker..

but I make no guarantees for you guys up in the arctic region there. :wink1:

btw, I noticed they dropped the price on the heaters to like $121....

killer mod for that kinda coin imo...
