87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

shrinkwrap tape baby!

sh*ts worked awesome for fitting it all up...

Note to self, wire brushes can double as spacer blocks!

Yeah, the smitty-bilt cage is 2" as well. No wonder you had trouble to source DOM, hardly anyone carries it in 2".
Lookin real nice though! Alot of work, isn't it!

definitely a visceral experience bending that 2" ! :haha:

for me it isn't even size but lack of distributors.. there's like 2 in the whole state, and not even a semi-direct source... That Keystone place in Del is good tho...

definitely a time consuming process... fit, measure, shift, remeasure, cut, trim, fit measure, trim, rinse, repeat...

I hope to have the whole cage, floor, console, etc done in about 6 weeks..

thank ya sir.....

it's hard not too get ahead of yourself... ya get all psyched cuz ya figured out the next plan of attack, but ya need to finish the task your doing...

I'm all motivated to get to the floor and cage flanges now, so I finish the lower cage 1/2... but I still need to do a few things before I get to the floor.. probably be 2 weeks finishing up the upper cage stuff, wire chase, ceiling, etc... eh, I can't order cage flanges till next week anyway...

Looking awesome! Keep it up. Can't wait to see it emerge under its own power, I mean POWER!

Lookin' sharp! :saweet:

How many tries did it take to get that multi-axis bend figured out for the a-pillar??

I hate wasting tube, but I just have this feeling that there are going to be some "development costs" associated with trying to get those exactly the way I want them (through the dash, snug to the a-pillar...and exiting perfectly level toward the back of the truck).

I've got Bend-Tech Pro, but I haven't spend enough time with it to understand how to put in dimensional contraints and have it figure out the angles and lengths of each bend.

:usaflag:

Hell, don't even weld that up. Just leave the hammer, wire brush, and tap on it. Now that's custom for sure!!

Looking good and looks like a very solid design.

Awesome Paul! Un like me, I'm motivated to do.......nothing! :o I even tried to work on the rig on Monday, messed with the fans like 5 minutes and I was already getting pissed off  The thing that pisses me off more, is that when you look the rig, you can clearly see there's not much left to do to get it rolling :crazy::o

Damnit Ben if you dont get your ass in gear and have the truck running by the time I leave for the summer, I will be very pissed. The engine is probably siezed by now.

That's about the only thing I'm not doing, it's getting the good running, stock tbi back in it till I do the 383 down the road...

hopefully the 5.13's will make that bearable for awhile..

ah, Greg, always awesome to have you check in on my schtuff...Your imput is always appreciated.. And, of course, the million $$$$$$ question... :wink1:

I've made 1 bad bend.... second one... the first tube I did for the bumper.. first bend was good, second was out of axis... learned my lesson out of the box.. :wink1:

obviously your first thoughts are, how can I use this on smaller runs, etc? wasting tube is a sin.. unless ya got a rack of the stuff... :haha:

good eye on the multi-axis aspect of the A-pillars... yup, they where pretty annoying... :haha: I had to reload both of em a couple times to add a few degrees here and there... I'd say each one averaged about 3 hrs to cut, bend, fit, etc... BUT I did nail em in the end with no waste... I'm pretty confident I can use all the tube up with no "bad bends"..

That being said, I'm sooooooooo rednecking this... I have the degree ring and haven't even hooked it up.. doing it all with angle finders, tape measure, level, eyeball, etc....

just wishing I bought another 3 sticks or so to do the back bed area too, and been done with it all.. Not a family cage type thing, but I have it all drawn up, think it's pretty cool and original...

I'd love to get, and start playing with some of the software down the road.. But honestly, I dont think you could do those A-pillars I did... ya just gotta fit, measure, go, etc on one like that I think...

see for me it's the other end... I have the vision in my head, know the amount of hrs I have to put in to achieve what I want, wake up from fainting, and resolve myself to needing to pound endless hrs on it..... :doah::eek1::(:o:haha:

psssst, go outside! :haha:

Yeah yeah yeah...I do however plan on working on this pig this weekend if the rain ever stops

Im in the same boat, rains when im off work but while im at work it is sunny and nice. :doah:

The best part of Ryokens build is he has everything inside :D

I'm actually at the point where I wish it was nice during the work week, and rained all weekend..

I feel guilty, I'm in the dungeon grinding, cutting, etc all weekend, and it's gorgeous outside... open the garage door, "boy, it's nice out", close the door, start grinding again...

I hope to get a sh*tload done this weekend...

why leave the door shut? I mean I like inhaling grinding dust as much as the next guy, but sometimes you need a little natural light with a slight breeze.

I try to keep from subjecting my neighbors to the noise... my next door neighbors house is 10' away..

when I'm running air tools it gets annoyingly loud with the oilless compressor and the grinder going, etc...

I'd drive em crazy.... And their cool, so I try to be reciprocal...
