back of the B-post.. there's a hard-to-see, double flange of sheetmetal, looking head-on in this shot, thats the back lip of the factory b-pillar, it will be folded over behind the new piece and be welded...

I'll weld it tomorrow... now I can put that back floor piece in for good.. which is good, all the back flanges will be done. and the floor from the support back will be done...

next weekend, fab the tunnel...... :saweet:

I'm starting to see the light at the end of the "tunnel", pun intended.... :wink1: I'll be one happy mofo the day the whole floor is in, welded, primed, and I'm seamsealing it....

The front bumper, cage and floor have been MASSIVELY time consuming... The support bridge and that floor piece probably took me 15, 16 hrs this weekend...

still need to fab a rear crossmember, skidplate, back cage and bumper, front shock mounts, etc, but as long as the tub is done (cage painted, herculiner), the rest'll be cake... :crazy:
 
Paul as usual very good stuff here....

Just gotta acknowledge not only your time on the project "Overkill" but also the time it takes to document it all by pics and downloads, and postings, and......

anyhow thanks a bunch.
 
eh, this is the easy part... :D thanks for the props tho.. :bow:

side-build-note..... mom and dad where in town today, hadn't been to the house in about 4 yrs.. They where blown away with the truck and the fab capabilites/tools of the shop these days...

that's awesome Paul!!! :bow: It's cool when a bunch of hill billys (us :p:) are impressed, but when your own parents are amazed and impressed, that's just cool! :bow:

There is nothing like doing things yourself to give you an appreciation not only for the skill of a good fabricator, but for why it costs so much to have certain things (like a custom rollcage) built by someone with real talent....

It's not even possible to express the number of hours that are lost to designing, tweaking, fitting and checking all those little details to make them right. Perhaps the "average" person can't even tell the difference between a weld-together "cage kit" and something that is truly one of a kind??? :dunno:

Anyway, great job Paul.... it's exciting to see the leaps and bounds you're making lately, and I'm sure this type of progress only increases your intensity and motivation. :waytogo:

it made me feel good... dad doesn't "get it" as much as mom does.... mom has more of an "old world" appreciation for the "skills" I've developed over the years... i may not be a "success", but mom's proud none-the-less, and thats more important.....

thats the reason over the years i've always been quick to defend bodyshop pricing... time consuming stuff...

absolutely! :bow: for as challenging as I think it's going to be, I'm really psyched to do the console.... I think it may be a real stand-out item on the truck...

just have to have the patience to plod thru the floor project first... :doah::haha:
 
grrrrrrrrrrrr....... i swear the hardest part of this whole truck has been stripping the carbon off of the sheet steel I'm using.. :mad::mad::mad:


the DOM tube? easy peezy, came right off..... these 4 x 8 sheets of 12 gauge? sh*t's like sanding concrete! :crazy::mad::(

i think you guys know I'm pretty well equipped... I've hit this stuff with everything... 36 on a DA, 7" 24 grit's on my rotary, 7" flap on the rotary... takes forever to get it off...

I swear I'm gonna bring these pieces out back and sandblast em.. WHAT A FREAKIN PAIN IN THE NADS!!!!! slow going this weekend boys.....

ya know.... I thought about trying chemical... aircraft stripper, letting lacquer soaked rags sit on it, etc....

but it's freakin carbon.... :eek1: not sure what can "cut" that... :confused:

I noticed this last time when I did the back... any angle, tube, etc I ever got that has the carbon coating, it comes off WAY easy... something about this sheet steel... :mad:

did ok, today, not great... spent 2/3 of the day running around taking care of errands, etc... pretty well prepped to get a good amount done tomorrow... if I can get the back floor in and flanges done, I'll be pleased...

I should just be laying on the couch and recouping... :haha: got my arse handed to me this week, quite a few wounds to heal up...... :doah::wink1:

I finally got my truck back today. Going on vacation tomorrow but hopefully be by to lend a hand soon.
