87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

Those flanges off the sides on the front line up with the strip on either side where the door closes... Gonna run 6 machine screws thru that sheetmetal and tapped into the composite.. The whole thing mounts behind the sheetmetal.. The screw heads will be hidden by weatherstripping for the door..

Going with the same smoked lexan for a door as the electronics box lid... Carry that look over.. With the same latch in the center... Should look pretty cool...

The breakers and indicator lights should be in tommorrow, so I can really get cranking on it... Starting out with 12 circuits, but eventually it'll have 18...

Going for this kinda look, but satin black as opposed to gray... And I'll be running green indicator lights...

And a strobe for that "on the go party!" :wink1:

Forgot a couple..

The battery holddown I made up... simple, some 3/16th's angle iron with the ends turned up and welded, 1" wide.. sitting on some 1/4" neoprene rubber...

Here's a few mock up shots...

I'll be trimming the sheet metal back along the top some... Up to the old latch spot...

Well they look a little dirty to me, can ya clean them up next time before you take pics?

Just had to pic on you a little Paul, looking great. Hey do you have a extra post cover to throw on that exposed pos. post?

I know, now I'm getting petty, but dammit its hard to find flaws you know. I guess that was probably just a test to see who would notice?

This is the first time I've ever made a concerted effort to take some photos... I usually forget, then just take an "after" shot.... :doah: Thats why this has turned into some sorta build thread (egads, I called it that, never was intended to be).. I've been trying to remember to snap a few here and there.. Greasey fingerprints and all....

And yup, your right, good eye... Actually it was me just being lazy, the boot does shift over it...

Probably be a good idea tho to put a couple of the plastic caps back on the posts that the new batteries get delivered with.. they just fit right over the post.. double insurance...

tell ya what tho, those batteries don't budge... even before I had the holddown they didn't move...

I can't wait to get this one , painted, rigged and installed... (now where's that toe-tapping smilie?)

Ryoken: thinking thats the first time I've typed EGADS..... Must be losing it....:haha:

Egads....:haha: :haha: Can't even recall the last time I heard that one.

As usual things are looking good Paul.

Thanks guys... :o

I'm happy with it so far... I'm thinking the custom fan shroud & glovebox breakerpanel should turn out pretty cool...

Now I just gotta do a york and tank on the other side at some point... :wink1:

Hey. anybody have a recommendation for a color combo on the latches now that you've seen the lexan?

I'm kinda leaning toward the black cup with satin handle..

but I guess black/black or the mirrored one would be fine...

Ryoken,

Did you find a source for these latches that doesn't want you to buy 500? I am just thinking these would be ideal for fixing the rattle on the stock center console in mine. Clean look with very little movement, just have it punch into an open hole below the lid. Just my idea for mine, but your idea for a clean install.

Haha, well, yes, and no... :doah:

I did locate a distributor that sells with a minimum of $50... no big, I'm assuming they're relatively expensive... I'm thinking they're prolly $25 to 30 a piece... And I need 3... :doah:

But thats ok, I figured they'd run that much, it's what I want if I can get them.. I've seen the units, quality piece... If you check the pdf's, pretty involved little item...

That being said, not all the color options are available... she gave me a list of #'s that are available, I just need to go thru the list and pick the best choice... Not sure if any of the 3 I listed are available..

I've slacked on this one.. made a bunch of calls last week, but haven't done anything this week... need to call them back and figure out exactly what i can get, and how much....

And hey, my ideas are anyones, I take it as a compliment that someone digs what I'm doing... If I had a prob with it, I wouldn't be getting ready to have hopefully, many trucks running my dash...

That's cool, are they available from marine shops? Like I said I can see at least one for my center console, and as I mentioned on my post about the side panels, I could actually see using a pair of these on each side to make it easier to get into the panels for the Amps and other toys I am going to put in there.

Well, usually they're sold to manufacturers in bulk... but apparently South co does have distributors, the question is what they have in stock... when i get my order figured out, maybe i can pick up an extra for you....

See, you just gave me an idea, I hadn't even contemplated using them on the back panels... :wink1:

Just curious, any progress on mass producing the dash?

well, if 3 or so a week could be considered "mass production" :wink1:

Ummm, honestly, not a ton.. I've barely started the mold... need to get back to that, haven't touched it in over a week.. been busy getting the truck thru inspection and of course that torture pit known as work...

I still have it in my head to start turning the first ones out around the 4th of July...

Ok, here's how it's coming together....

Still waiting on a couple breakers that where back ordered.. And it needs to come back out to trim that top sheetmetal.. also gotta start working on the lexan door this week at work...

The area to the left will more than likely be another bank of 6 circuits.. And the names of each circuit will be to the left of each indicator light...

Sorry for the crappy pics, really need to get a new camera... :o
