87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

not as fast as the door bar kit but this is probably the uber expensive one you were thinking of.

yup, those are the ones... trick item...

well, here's where I stand at this point... i will be doing the revised, angle downtube to the well..

Slapper, where you saying to leave the vertical one in? I'm thinking I'll just do the angle one...

now to the lateral stuff.. for now it's getting nothing.... the plan at this point is to tie it together with the stinger for the rear bumper... gonna be doing something like Dontoes...

Rear_of_Blazer.sized.jpg

but I'm planning to run the stinger behind the tire, then have 1.5 tubes come off the stinger over the tailgate to the corners of the cage at the c-post... i'll do real short little stubs and then some cool, pinned release gig, ala maybe that door bar kit on each side...

this includes my canvas guy hooking me up with some softtop mods of course... i'll have him do little u cuts up from the bottom to go around the tube on the back panel... i already need him to work on that panel, it needs to be shortened up a tad..

this obviously would also mean i'll have to zip open the back some to release the pins.. no big as far as I'm concerned..

and more obviously, it means, i'll have a pick-up gate.. been looking for one anyway....

how about eliminating the vertical one and doing this... splits the support of that mid bar into 3 equal sections... and looks better imo...

I would agree, and then maybe a verticle bar from the rearward angled tube up to the one above it?

What I'm gonna do is put the front angled one in, see what I think, and go from there...

one thing I should expound on is what I mentioned earlier about the back being an after-thought... anything I decide to add, change, etc from the B-hoop back isn't a big concern... spotting/welding something back there is no big deal down the road...

it's the stuff in the cab that I don't wanna have to go back in and weld/paint around... dash, console, roof, etc...

hopefully i can finish up the cage stuff, figure out panel mount tab spots in the back, get them welded in, and start rough fitting all the composite back there this weekend...hopefully.. think I've got some pretty good ideas for that stuff...

anybody got any opinions/thoughts on the stinger/cage x bar idea? :ears:

couple thoughts on that from me... pros and cons.....

pro - eliminates that high leverage mounting issue on the "lock-in" bar on the style like dontoes.. wont have to worry about a 38 or larger tire rippin that stuff off...

pro - gives the cage an additional 2 mounting points.. I'll have an 13 point cage effectively, with 8 points tied to the frame... i'll be using greased fabricator bushing sets for the stinger to bumper pivot...

pro - will add a sh*tload of lateral stabilty to the back of the cage/frame imo..

pro - by running the stinger behind the tire I have the ability to mount the tire much lower on the tailgate if i want... improving rear view...

con - mounting the tire on the ground to the stinger might be a little harder than rolling the tire onto the stinger...... might...

con - if i leave the bars solid off the stinger, once it's open and laying on the ground, i'd have the 2 tubes sticking out in the air.. not a big deal i suppose.. just would have to watch giving yourself a shinner walking around.. :doah:

maybe I'll pin both ends.. disconnect in the truck... then if i'm gonna be working around the back of the truck, etc for awhile, take the other pins out and stow the tubes...

Here's something I've kicked around in thought for the future:
From the two main bars from the B pillar that angle down towards the back, put a tire carrier hinge point on the bend of those bars, about top of the bed height. Make a tire carrier mount on each side of those outtermost bars, that would flop down towards the tailgate.
You could flop the carrier down, flop the tire up onto the tire carrier, attach a few nuts to premounted studs, flip it back up to anchor to a tie bar between the main outtermost bars, and its out of the way, although it would hamper rear bed room, you would still be able to get under the tire for things in the bed.

On the bars you have drawn in like a V what about running the back V to the corner at the tail gate. It would run close to the same angle as the bar above the bed rail and add strength to the rear. But I'm pretty new to all of this. I think it would llook good too.

a little short one above that mid bar?

I dont want to add anything above that mid bar.. i love the way it looks as is...

i definitely want the spare outside the truck.. cool idea tho...

like this?

That's what I was thinking, but I'm not so sure, I thiught the two bars would look more parralell. I would keep the vertical and it should add a little strength to the rear. You're truck and build is awesome by the way.

thanks mang... :D

thats pretty close to matching the above one.. pretty cool.... i think i'll decide this one on the fly...
