87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

I am liking it Paul. Lots of really stout work in there. Now just to get it done and then get you over here to run Moab for the Bash.

I'm just anxious to get all the metal work done and start getting to the mechanicals...

it will be on the trails in the spring, aprilish at the latest... I have to look at that realistically, on the cash end.... x-mas would be nice, but unlikely. and it's silly not to finalize/invest/tweak it thru those last couple winter months....

I understand that desire, and I am really looking forward to seeing you get this thing out and about.

But, I also know it is highly unlikely I would ever lose my mind enough to want to be anywhere near that particular coast. That means that unless you come to BB or to UT at some point, I have no chance of ever meeting you. So get it done and come to BB next year, and I will make sure Krusty and I are down there as well. :haha:

my guy ran out of green zinc, so I got the yellow :wink1:

All i have to say i awesome work and build.......how does that primer work compared to the regular stuff...? Who makes it and how much...?........thanks

it works awesome for it's intended purpose... basically it's a bonding agent, between the steel and filler primer... but with the zinc, you really need to put a regular, filling primer on top of it for best results..

some "etching" primers are not what they seem.. most of what you'll find in the average auto/hardware store doesn't have much, or any, zinc in it... they tend to be thicker, more like regular primer... kinda "cashing in" on the whole term "self etching...

i get my stuff thru work.... here's a google shopping link... about $10 a can... goes pretty far, ya only need a thin coat...

the Moeller stuff is pretty nice... I like the old Tempo brand better, but I think they went belly-up...

****ing impressive, I also love all the crazy colored primers :haha:

I'm actually kinda digging the yellow..... :haha::crazy:

here's a little paint rendering of the rest of the tunnel... the red sections are fixed/welded... the blue will be removable.... one flat panel....

the driverside goes straight back, so a little more floor space under the seat than the passenger side...

originally, i was gonna make both the blue and the front red section removable, but decided against it......

oh, and that cage flange will be tied to the frame... with a setup somewhat like this... bushing plate bolted to the frame, tube welded to flange...

Now that I see the floor going in, I'm thinking the cage in orange with black padding and all the floor/wall steel semi-black or herc should be pretty sick looking... :saweet:

Going to add my two cents in here. Might want to make the front red section removeable if you can. How much easier would a motor or trans swap be with the ability to have that much easy access to both of them. Or even any kind of issues that you might have with them or anything under there. Just a thought. :D

I can, pretty easily...

just looking at it, the blue access will be sweet and gets me right up to the tailhousing... the only thing the red will do is get me to the bellhousing bolts easily... and I'm not worried about that, there's more room around that whole front than the factory, even with the trans jacked up for a flush belly.....

it would be stronger and easier welded up..... trick and more time consuming removable.. :doah::wink1:

we'll see.... :haha:

thats the last part of the floor to be done... I've gotta get the other side caught up to this.... :doah::(

ok, "might as well" slut-out a few more.......

seat mocked-up... foot room, etc....

oh, one other tidbit.... some may remember that I was running a truck bedmat in the back.. once the floor is all Herc'd, I'll run a cut-to-fit piece on that whole flat section up front too...

I was wondering why the bolted in seat side bar....now I know, thanks for the explanation.
Great stuff Paul.

those are actually THE main frame tie-ins, being I'm not tieing in the ones at the footwell... tho, even without a tie-in, I think that cage flange worked out well....

There'll be 5 tie-in's in the end.. with maybe 6 mounting points... those 2... the 2 all the way in the back at the bed corners and then a fancy one off the center b-hoop one that goes to each frame rail...

so all of those along with the 2x4 work are the supporting structure replacing the original cab supports then?

yup.. instead of having 10 factory body mounts, I'll now have 16... should help stiffen sh*t up..... :wink1:

you can pretty much jack the truck up anywhere....

Ya know once this thing gets done and you bring it to BB, you will have to come back the next year, and bring the JPM award back.
