87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

ah, windows 98, blue screen of death, i remember the days... :D just hit the power button and wait a minute... :haha:

there are some pretty fancy power supplies out there too I need to shop thru... pretty critical item i think...

thinking i'd run a DPDT switch to power it all.... maybe off/on with ign/on when key off, or something like that... i'll figure it out...

call my tube order in tomorrow.... :saweet:

thanks! :D

I hope to get a killer weekend in on it.... the list of things to work on is ridiculous right now...

******the smart thing to work on*****

finish the DAMN floor!!!!!!!!! :haha: really, it's probably 3 weekends to get it done, including the removable cover...

******the fun thing to work on******

keep playing with the console/fiberglass pieces... :haha: pc enclosure, backwall, get the front mounts done, etc....

I'll probably do just a bit of that to keep the creative side flowing, but spend the majority of the weekend on the ds floor.. :(

once the tube for the back gets here tues, I better just put a hammock up down in the garage.... :wink1:

alright, after all that blah, blah, here's something to entertain/amuse you guys till a real update.... just some more late-night, wandering around the dungeon, conceptual, template work... :wink1:

here's how I'm thinking of mounting the CB...... basically, I'll be using composite to build that shape into the console.. just the end, where it says cb, will be open with the cb face sticking out..

not sure on it yet.... have a couple other ideas bouncing around my brain.. .. this'll be down the road, just more "not wanting to paint myself into a corner" line of thinking.. :haha:

what say the CK5 brethren? :ears:

The mike cord is going to bang you in the head, my vote is not there. Unless you can figure out what to do with the mike

oh, and Overkill's revised shopping list after the tube order today......

1 - clocking ring

2 - lcd

3 - lokar e-brake

4 - nwf - twinstick, x-over, etc

5 - seat belts

6 - frame tie-in's

yada, yada... :haha:

well, I guess i should have mentioned, that i would definitely do some, more remote mounting of the mike clip, to alleviate that... i think if you mounted the mike clip at the front of the console, the cord probably wouldn't be an issue..

can you get different length mike cords?

On the sidelines......Peekin in

Although Im not diggin the direction which the console concept is heading, I do dig the fab skills - Great job thus far - Cant wait to see the completed project.

As for the CB - Would it not be a good idea to turn it, to better face you ? That would be the first thing that I noticed...

Just 2cts......

that was one of the other ideas bouncing around in the brain... can't turn it much, like 15, 20 degrees... but i thought it looked pretty trick... and certainly better functionality for me.. tho that does kinda eliminate passenger use at all...

mind if i ask what you aren't digging on the console? the "exposed tube/panel" look/style of it all? the fact I'm doing the PC? just curious.... :D

Dont mind at all - I didnt bother to include my opinion in the last post 'cause it didnt belong there - Some peeps like plan A, some favor plan B - To each his/her own, respectfully.

I believe the exposed tubing is my bigger issue, yes. What I had in mind when you mentioned (and teased us all) about a console was more of a center console merged to the dash type idea, having smooth paneling and lines - More of a fiberglass project for example. The composite paneling is awesome - I will be getting some once my own projects take off.

The PC idea, no offense - I will never understand. It falls in line with headrest LCDs and in car DVD players, gaming consoles, etc. Granted, I am blissfully ignorant of the possibilities and capabilities of said equipment (PC) and dont upload my own music etc - Complete ignorance :wink1:.

The only other issue I can think of off hand is security. I meant to ask in my previous post -- How do you intend to secure all of this equipment from window shoppers etc ? Its more of a concern than an issue actually.

As stated - Great job, Im still watching this thread each time anything happens.

awesome, thanks, appreciate the honesty...

i feel ya on the pc gig... the reason i got on it was diagnosing the megasquirt stuff... i have a laptop, but thought, boy that'd be pretty cool, touchscreen tuning on the fly... and decided to go off from there... believe me, I was holdout "carb guy" for a LONG time.. like i said, I'm stubborn....

i can see why someone may have expected a different style from me... that all started with the overhead...

Ryoken to Ryoken dialouge :haha:- "doing a cage, want an overhead console, how can i do this easy?"

flat panel, 2 parallel tubes... boy, that'll have a real prerunnerish look to it.. hmmm, i've never seen anyone integrate their cage into their console, hmmm, flat panel it like the overhead.. thats also how i came up with the rear cage design..

obviously, i think it looks tough as he!!..... or I suppose I wouldn't be building it.. :haha: but for sure, to each his own.. the world would be quite boring if everyone agreed... i'll do a smoothed/shaped one on my next project, the 40 WILLY"S!!!!!!! :saweet:

thanks man, really appreciate the imput!

oh, security.. honestly haven't contemplated it too much... my new diagram has multiple kill switch/theft deterent aspects to it... but in-cab hardware? nope, just the locking of the doors... i don't plan on an actual "alarm"

I am in a pretty damn good town and it is my "secondary" vehicle.. so if i'm gonna leave it somewhere questionable i'd probably take the DD if i could...

I think I like it on the angle better... adds a little chaos to a very parallel ceiling... certainly better veiwing....

I agree

In that position, you'd be able to see what channel your on etc with a glance, instead of leaning to the right, looking forward, and taking your attention off the road for the longer period of seconds - It only takes 1 sec for something to go bad - quick.

I smile when asking - But is the "housing" for the CB going to be just as squared and cornered as your template ? This may be a good place to add further personailty to the design by "lumping out" from the composite with a smooth housing rather than straight edged and pointed. :D It would definitely be an eye catch for sure.

hehe, thats was one of the cranium tumbleweeds too... :D

yup, even tho it's MORE labor, I'll more than likely do a rounded corners approach.. :wink1: I actually have something in mind for that.. it's not gonna be all swoopy, but it will have very radius corners and such...

I need some JD for that template session... :haha: actually I probably wont get back to this for quite some time... it's an easy "add-on" mod down the road...

rambling build note... I've already changed the order of the shopping list... :haha: bumping the lcd down some, it CAN wait....

hopefully next week I'll be putting in a HUGE order with NWF.... need the twin stick, and I want my hi-steer, 205 stuff.....

Rounded corners would also alleviate my first concern when I saw the CB housing - that sharp corner near your head.

yup, this one kinda goes back to the grap handle issues too... my first concern there was "headknocker" too... it was the first thing I thought about when I decided to try this idea...

I think it's ok... :o it's farther away than any of the surrounding tubes, by a good bit... no seat belt, roll-over, yeah potential prob.. we'll hope that never happens... :wink1:

I think i'll ask for the cb for x-mas... nobody buys me truck parts, but they'd buy that... :wink1: :haha: gonna do the high-end nightwatch cobra... i want the NOAA feature...

Paul,

I like the parallel CB mount better FWIW....

We're talking about a CB radio here, not a GPS or oil pressure gauge that requires lots of constant monitoring. Set it to the channel you want and GO.....right? :dunno:

How about mounting the entire CB to a integrated round "lazy susan" type swivel. Then you could turn it to face either passenger, and when Greg72 came to visit you could point it straight ahead so as not to offend his obvious OCD issues....

:D

:usaflag:

well, thought I had an update, but alas, the camera batteries are dead.... :doah::doah::(:p:

been cranking pretty good... got the driverside slider and inner rocker in... hopefully this weekend, I can get that floor in and I'll just have the tunnel flange and panel to do...

but I got sidetracked........ :o

doing the back cage! :woot::saweet::weld::grind::woot::saweet:

going good, I think it's gonna look killer... about a third of the way done...

but here, just so there's a pic and i'm not a complete tease, here's some laughs....... it's one for your redneck files.... :wink1:

whats that term "necessity is the mother of stupidity, errr, i mean invention"? ;) had to get 3 sticks home from the marina a couple miles down the back roads... jousting anyone?!?!?!? :haha:

haha002.jpg

I'll get a cage/floor update in over the weekend....:deal:
