when i do the 383, it'll get the edelbrock intake, bigger injectors, new pump and maybe a custom tank at that time.. no forced induction, other than the functioning airbox/ cowl hood :wink1:, just a pretty healthy roller cammed 383, AFR's, etc.... in other words, as i normally do, i'll probably go off..... :haha: thus more than likely a billet dizzy...

Nice! honestly, even with the changes you are talking about for the new engine it will really only be tuning and depending on the distributor a jumper change inside the MS. No real customizations needed especially since you want to stay away from trigger wheels.

I agree 100% on the USB adapter built in. There are a lot of adapters out there and not all are compatible with MS or anything else for that matter. :rolleyes:

On your map sensor keep in mind that the stock sensor is good to 20 lbs of boost so unless you are running a BIG turbo or supercharger it really is not necessary. It definitely wont help for mountain driving.

Also, if you do want to do some EGT monitoring you might want to consider forgoing any changes in the MS proper and look at using the GPIO once you are ready to do your EGT work. It also lets you monitor other inputs in addition to EGT as you see fit. It is also a trans controller. The cool thing is it communicates information back and forth to the megasquirt on the can bus so all devices have access to all collected information. With regards to buying a pre-built vs building it on your own I am of the later belief. I think building your own allows you to know where everything is in order to troubleshoot any issues that you might run into. Most people that run into problems with the MS hardware (letting the magic smoke out) are self inflicted. Usually wiring issues, but in your case I doubt that will be an issue as you are not the average bear when it comes to wiring. :bow::haha:

I have built up 2 different Megasquirts a 2.2 and a 3.0 and did the upgrade to the MS2 in both of them. The build process is not too hard and takes about a day to complete. Time is definitely money but I don't regret building either one of them myself.

well, when I do sidework, which is pretty freakin rare, I like to make 50 to $75 an hr... I'm billed out at work at 95 an hr..

my truck? forget it... a tally of what it's "at a shop" value would be... stupid money... :eek1: Foose and them got nothing on me... :pimp::woot::haha:

the hrs are stupid... it'll be every bit of a "100 grand truck" when done if ya go by my labor billed, parts, etc... well, ok... ROUGHLY.... 50 an hr x 1000 hrs, at least = someones annual salary! :pimp:

thats not really a necessarily fair statement tho... there are MANY projects I've done, where, with a pro shop's tools I would have been 1/2 the time.. I make do with what I have sometimes... :crazy: :o

at some point in the next year or so, I'd like to get Dashworks up and running with a fiberglass product line, etc... it's the next "project" once the rig is on the streets...

but it dawned on me the other day, I'm gonna need a R&D, fitment rig to develop the projects, other than the dash.... mine has, somehow :thinking:, lost most of it's raw factory stuff to work off of..... :doah::haha:






actually, one of the products is a reasonably priced center console.... :whistle:

I did some work in there the last month or so, but I just finished up winter service on 40 Bravo 3's.. glad to be done with them heavy SOB's.. but now I'm a little light on work due to the weather.. not productive working under boats in a foot of snow.... :(






anyway.... since it's too early to make noise down in the dungeon, I'll put up a preview of what I'm working on, while I heat the garage up... brrrr... :wink1:

tho once the cage tube was welded into the dash, it stiffened the dash immensely, i still wanted to tie the lower dash edge into it, so it wasn't "floating".... it doesn't move, but it'll give the composite side panel something to butt up against when bolted in...


this is roughly the piece going in... still need to fine shape it, round the lower corner, cut the hole for the panel mount, etc....

should make that area rock solid, but not inhibit getting in there when i need to access stuff too much...

i should be able to finish up both sides today and get started on the heater mounting... I think i have good idea for an air diverter....
 
Snow day, what a joke.:grin: I have yet to have a day that I could really say that I can't make it to work, that included driving through more than a foot of snow that had already fallen while the second foot was dropping.

Just giving you a hard time, enjoy the day and get some work done on the rig.
 
it isn't even the driving, I'm only 2 miles from work... :p: the Nova's an awesome snow rig!!! :haha:

i had to laugh yesterday.. Joysians are such weenies they normally close school if they THINK it's gonna snow..... well, they made em go yesterday, on a NASTY day, cuz they've used up their snow days.... :haha:

it's not having alot of stuff to do... all my current projects are either boat exteriors or motor installs on boats I can't pull out of snow drifts.. I've done all my "inside" work, drives done, motors ready for install, etc...

I hate using up a sick day, but once april 1 hits, i WONT be able to take a day off for 4 months anyway..... :doah::wink1:

That light/magnifier is a great addition to any soldering station. I assembled my MSII and definitely recommend it. The instructions in the Megamanual are great and explain the different options you can go with to customize the MS to your needs. Refresh my memory...Are planning on sticking with TBI or using another type of injection?

I also used a lead bending tool (link) to help with consistent component installation. The soldering is a piece of cake on the MS 3.0 board. No surface mount components, and I also strongly recommend socketing all of the chips. It is a lot easier to remove a chip from a socket if it goes bad than to desolder an eight pin or greater chip.

Also, the best way to understand the tutorials on the software in the Megamanual is to just install Megatune and play with it. Get the Stimulator too so you can experiment with the MS before you plug it into your truck.

thats the first i've heard about doing sockets.. makes sense.... can the 3.0 board be purchased with sockets and plug in chips instead of solder-in chips? i haven't seen it afaik......

the heater really needed/wanted to be in that position.. perfect for the hoses, and the best for the diverter.... but i'm really happy with the final solution... about as simple as i could do it, and it's waaay stronger than my original plan for mounting it to the firewall.... just finished welding them in....


tho the diverter is gonna be a little involved, i think i have a pretty good plan of attack.... making it out of the composite.... i also have an idea to make defrost and floor switchable.. i'll see how that one pans out.... :crazy::haha:
 
You can just order the sockets from Digikey.com You need 1 each of AE10013-ND and AE10021-ND, and 2 AE10011-ND. They will cost less than $2, but shipping will be extra. I am pretty sure that DIYautotune will include the 40 pin socket for the cpu with the kit.

Oh, and the chips are the same either way.
