87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

Looking awsome as usual.

On a side note, I was reminded of this build a few minutes ago while unpacking our stuff into our new house i found my old board that i havent rode since i was about 17. Jumped on, quickly fell off, board shot out, hit my blazer and reminded me that i should probably start working on the truck again and maybe get back on that board more often.

thanks guys... :D

here's what the compartment size will be.... 6" deep x 6" wide x 12" long...

I could have made it 8"s deep..

compartment001.jpg

but I'm pleased with the size, I thought it might have to be smaller....

I'll be working on the center panel for probably a month off and on.. stoked on this glass project... :saweet:

I lived in that apartment in the corner for a year.... fuel cell 1/2 in/out of the trunk, rail-mounted filter and pump, yada.....

Cool! Thats the perfect ratio of living area vs garage area:waytogo:
But I guess for people like us garage area is living area :cool1:

Really nice build btw, if I haven't said it already...

it was a pretty sick setup.... pro's and con's to living at work...

the one thing I learned from that experience was, it's VERY strange living in a place with no windows to the outside! :haha:

my "window" overlooked the shop.... :doah:

the duo, couch-potato-ing it.... :haha:

When i get my piece of land, im going to build a "shop" with one "storage room" and one "office", and a bathroom on the second story, plan to live in it, at least until i meet a girl i plan to be with, and build a house. Figure, i want a big shop, so might as well build that while im young and crazy, i dont need much space, heck my closet is full of spare parts as is :haha:

Hey paul, short hijack here. Thought ya might like to see these pics. Picked these up today.

you have NO idea how funny that is to me..... :haha:

semi-long story, semi-short..... :wink1:

back when I was a young gun of about 20, I worked in the resto shop for Hunterdon Concrete.. Alias Flemington Block, Lentine Aggragates, yada..... restoring mixers, dozers, caddy's, planes, yada...

well, the 3 owners where Sal, Vince and Frank... all had killer houses, with HUGE first floor garages, like 75' x 75'....

Sal had a stable of old 50's, 60's Buicks and such... Lincoln's too...

Frank was into Vettes.. did a 67 427, 4 spd for him... 70 LS6 one too...

well... Vince ran the Grady White dealership, and collected old outboard motors.... 100's of em... :eek1: rows and rows in racks.. from 1920 1-bangers to mid 80's Yamaha 250's.... :haha:

when we would get REAL slow, we would resto some of the ones from the early days....

craziest job I've ever had.. learned stupid amounts of stuff...

that would be a cool job, certainly not monotonous.

What did you do to the Vettes, paint and body or what?

from rotating assembly to body/paint and frame to assembly... grd-up.... I'll have to scan some pics.. the 67 was white with nassau blue stripes.. the 70 was red and black...

I learned everything there, welding, body, hydraulics, grd-up resto, diesel, air systems, motors... everything from D9's and mixers to hotrods and planes.....

used to go in an hr early.... better than any school.....

very cool...invaluable lessons learned. I'd appreciate the pics.

i wish i had that kind of upbringing.i kinda just tinkered with everything my moms boyfriends had layin around til i started figuring out how to get them running.then started working on my own stuff when the time came.it would have been nice to actually get payed to learn on all that stuff you were building.awesome man as always,i miss my chevelle more with every new pic you post.

been getting some done here and there.......

the shifter mount is in, as is the compartment... ended up making a lip setup on the compartment, so the lid has a place to sit...

my e-brake cable will be in mon, tues, so i should have the crazy e-brake setup done soon... this should be interesting.... :haha:

No such thing as too many clamps. :haha:

Looking great man! What are you using to bond up your fiberglass? It does not look like resin. At least I have never seen red resin. But then again, I am a relative noob...:D

Cheers,
Rufus

yup, I have a good amount and wouldn't mind some more...

and it's thickened epoxy... the thickening agent I had kicking around was purple... usually i run a blend of high density and low density thickening agents, kinda tannish...

thickened polyester resin works fine too... i just happen to have a good amount of epoxy kicking around leftover from jobs... it is 5x's stronger than the poly, or even vinyl-ester, but at 5 x's the cost usually...

So the thickening agent you mentioned are these also referred to as microbeads? I have seen this term slung around on the Velocity aircraft experimental aircraft site I frequent.

Cheers,
Rufus

there are many types of thickening agents... they vary in properties they give the epoxy... micro-beads, also known as micro-balloons is one.... colloidal silica, cabosil, low density, filleting blend, etc.. thats colloidal silica I used, used mostly for bonding...

you can mix different ones to get different properties.. to get a fairing compound you use low density.... but one of my tricks is add about 20% high density... makes it tougher, and sands much better...

boy I hate guessing at parts... my cable came in for the e-brake today.... it's basically the same cable that comes with NWF's cable shifters, except this is the fancy low friction job from Mcmaster-Carr, I think NWF's is just a HD standard cable...

the NWF twinstick cable at top, e-brake cable on bottom....

great.... beefy.. now I can mock up the mounts... great.... figured a better way to do the handle end mount... under the PC tray... cool.. way easier, and it'll make disassembly easier when need be... :D

but I'm now thinking the 3'er I got isn't gonna be long enough... i kinda put it in a guessed position and i may need a 4'er in the end.. i'll find out at the end of the week when my clocking ring is in and i can do a final mockup on the 205, etc....

should have waited till then.... oh well.... :doah: could end up being a $50 mistake...

oh, and just a rant/mangina post..

just got done searching some NWF complaints on Google.... these guys suck...... :( i swear if I can get Kyle on the phone again, I'm gonna rip this Canuck a new hole.... what a freakin crappy biz this guy runs.. he'll fail at some point, you can only rip off so many people before it all comes back around...

like quite a few have said, NEVER again... I'm as easy going a purchaser as you'll find.... I'm exceptionally patient.... the original order was at the end of Nov... I knew about the rep prior, but yes, some lessons i need hard learnun.... :doah::crazy::o:haha:

the reason I'm soooo pissed, is the freakin shifter boot.. i don't care about the other misc sh*t they never sent... I'll get the needed hardware elsewhere... but the boot may be difficult....

actually, f*ck that, f*ck waiting on Kyle, I can make a different one work... i'll go take a peek at JKW's and ORD's and see if they look doable.... I'll have it within a week i bet.... good companies

you can be sure I'll badmouth the piss out of their service whenever possible.... same with PRP, they SUCK too....
