87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

Both you guys passed the "couz needs a straightjacket" mark many moons ago.... but in a good way.

I don't know...... I'm thinking Greg and I should think about giving it up and retiring, as we're probably not the best influence on you guys, well, at least according to your wallets and WIVES! :doah:  :haha:

thanks, glad you guys get to see it come together........ mang, i'd seriously maim someone for a week off right now, to work on the rig... or at least shout at them tersely... :eek1:

oh, and welcome to page 32 for you 100 per folk.... :)

It sounds like a better solution if you ever needed to run a new cable or repair anything with crimped or soldered ends on it. A nice Earls pass-through bulkhead fitting works good for cables or hoses, but with a bulky end fitting you'd never get it through the hole without cutting the ends off again. You're idea seems to support future servicing much better.

:usaflag:

yup, just change out the rubber to another config if ya wanted to add something, etc... obviously initial thought is keeping water out... but serviceability was the thought behind the stud/acorn gig too.. nut/bolted wouldn't have been very 1 man friendly...

originally i started to make it rectangular... started cutting little strips with miter's at the end for a pictureframe kinda thing.. then realized it would be a million times easier with holesaws! :doah: :haha:

EDIT - hmmm, post #3101 ended up being the wrong quote , weird..... fixed it...

Can't wait to see it all coming together
I bet it will look great.

I have no delusions about being able to compete with you guys for "coolest CK5 build", so I'm keeping it slow, cheap, and shadetree, but I enjoy living vicariously though you two. :D :bow::bow:

glad to entertain..... :woot: :wink1: :haha:

I'm sooooooooooooooooo jealous of Greg's axles.... :o

and of people with "trail only" rigs... that you can just go off on performance/mods with... trying to keep this rig street legal/drivable is a chore... :(

the other thing I realized at some point was that the truck will eat every dollar I let it... :haha: but that's a choice I've made to build a vision in my brain... to build what i hope is an innovative, capable rig with some pretty mindblowing features... for 2 yrs now, i've been "living on Raman noodles" so to speak... :haha:

in the sense that, i definitely have a fair amount of bills, which always delays the parts train, but I haven't spent dime one on ANYTHING else in that time...

i have 2 computers, ones a donated xp tower, another old win 98 machine... i run hand me down 19" CRT monitors... my tv is a hand me down 25" CRT... haven't bought a video game, etc for almost 3 yrs now.. no golf either.. played once in the last 2 yrs... usually i play 10 to 50 rd's a year... nothing... it's part's for the rig... :screwy::screwy::screwy:

also.... I've done a total, when it eventually is the way i want it in the end, budget... and you guys really don't want to know.....:screwy::smokin2: :doah:

Thats funny Ryoken. I havent played golf in about a year since getting back into wheelin and my Suburban. Until about 12-16 months ago, I was playing 5 times a week and was a 4 handicap. I could drive the ball 300-350yds and had one round last year that I had 2 birdies, an eagle and a hole in one in the same round. Now since getting back to this Suburban, I dont play and would rather drop $50-60 every day into the munepit.

I am doing a dual battery setup that I might need some help on. After work I am going to pick up the same SeaBreaze Battery switch that you have and another battery. The battery is a AC Delco Professional 800CCA. I know its not a good one, But I just bought the same battery 2 months ago. So Im using the same one. I looked on the first page of this build and got some good ideas, I might have a question or two. Thanks bud!!

Where does "Ryoken" come from?

you'd kick my arse, i shoot low 90's, high 80's on a good day... was stoked that i had learned to hit a draw the last couple yrs tho, as opposed to the 35 yr fade..

eh, the Delco's seem decent quality ... sure, shoot me a pm anytime...

copy/pasted Ryoken origin... :doah: :haha:

"back in the early 90's i was skating one of our big vert ramps out in woods with some buds... we had recently gotten into playing the game Battletech... I happened to be really nailing it that day, and they where saying how i was skating like a robot... well, Ryoken is a mech in the game, so on my next run, they started chanting Ryyyyyyy-oken... it just kinda stuck... :o "

Thats pretty cool about the name! A draw is hard to do, It takes skills to hit a draw. It would be cool to start a thread about screen names and the meaning behind them. Thanks Ryyyyy-oken!!

that just sounds so wrong...... :haha:

I bet I could guess pretty close. I have been involved in too many of these ridiculous builds. If you had a shop do this truck I would imagine you would have one of the very very few 175k blazers out there! :haha:

In the end though it really doesn't matter, how cheap or how expensive the build is, long as you are happy with it.

Can you see the light at the end of the tunnel yet????

that primecoat there was a HUGE turning point for me... a f*ckton more work to do, but yeah, I really think i can make next summer with "version 2.0 of Ryoken's Rig".. probably the biggest "f*ck yeah!" moment will be a rolling chassis in a few months....... :deal:

and yeah, we're talking about 40 to 50k cash outlay in the end... and, i don't know.... 2 to 3000 hrs of labor? :eek1: conservatively... scary....

Thats good to hear man, my guess was 50k, So lets say labor is 2500 at oh I don't know 50 bucks an hour???? So yah about 175k LOL at least yours will look nice. I have a fair amount into mine overall and it looks like crap:haha:

wow im opposite...
just bought the xbox 360 slim
kinect - going under tree for xmas
4 kinect games
ipod touch 32gb - 2 of them (1 kid and wife)
dslr camera - tons of cash into it... just dropped $1G on 2 lenses!!!!

but i have 2 kids, wife, bills, house, truck payment, etc...

funny thing is... im making my truck street legal more for a F*CK YOU NEW JERSEY!!! if i can find a truck one day... 1980 K30... ill be rolling down the streets.. registered @ 10,500 with the tailgate as a notepad... saying..

THIS TRUCK IS LIFT LAW EXEMPT @ 12,000LB GVRW.
PULL ME OVER AND IT IS HARRASSMENT

ill run rockwells and 53's JUST BECAUSE I CAN!!!!!!!!!!!

side from that... im gonna ride the law as tight as i can... i dont care...
i have a silverado that will be used to tow it to far places... as i cant drive 120 miles.. beat the snot out of her and expect her to get me home... that just is not thinking....

what annoys me with our lift law is i have fair amount of wheel well room... a dodge and ford are allowed 3" more... wtf... i know they say their frames are lower... but why dont they say... we dont care what tire you run.. your door has to be 33"???? that is what i have to be at now... then i can tub 42's under there, be safe, low and rocking out major meats!!!!!

But.....it performs so good:waytogo: I was amazed:D

the tire size is gonna screw me... i'll pick up a set of 35's to run thru more than likely the first time.. even if they mark it at that, i'll bring it home and put the 38's on.. i get pulled over, i get pulled over... I'm thinking i wont get hassled a ton, not like i'm running some POS looking rig on 44's....

what really gets me is with the truck sitting with the doors at 32 like it is, i think with decent bumpstops to control uptravel, I could EASILY run 39.5's with the sectioned fenders, axles moved, etc...

well, rainy day here at the Joysey shore... so i traded saturday for today... considering I work in a marina without any real shop, I tend to get soaked on rain days.. throw in the fact, you CANNOT wear raingear doing my job..

i'd rather work the nice sat... plus rain day's are good dungeon days as it helps keep the noise down for the neighbors.. :haha:

so, it looks like a full dungeon day! :woot:

I may have the cage painted later today, but we'll see how sidetracked i get... :doah: :haha: I may shoot the composite panels black instead...
