87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

that looks amazing. how are you going to shoot the floor, interior, etc, without getting paint on the cage?

2" tape and tinfoil :haha:

believe it or not, it'll actually be easier masking the cage off for the black than it woulda been vice versa...

some "not so hazy" shots....

Looks tits man. Had to be a pain spraying around all that tube.

Did you use the rattle cans then clear just cause the color or was there another reason for it.

yeah, i used the rattlecan as basecoat, then cleared it with Imron... it's Rustoleum red/orange engine enamel... it matched the seats well, that's why i went with it.. i cleared it for the durability and ease of future repair.. gives it some more gloss too....

Nice looks sweet, the first car I built was a 71 datsun 510 ,69 corvette huger orange, always loved that colour, looks good man!!

thanks! :D

well, here's what I do while I'm waiting for paint to dry.. literally.... :haha: hopefully the black panels will be done later today.. in the meantime, re-re-mocking up again...

cage matches the seats pretty well.... here's a bunch of pics..

gotta shoot copper on the firewall next....... then hopefully, maybe, I'll be shooting the interior black next weekend...

man paul that thing is coming along nicely.mine is now out of the garage and driveable.just waitin on a few things to get my inspection sticker.we will definitely have to get together next summer somewhere.

So i was just re reading what you were doing with your summit heater and Ive got a question for you. Are you just going to use it for defrost only? Were you using it that way before? I was thinking that I wanted half for defrost and half for floor heat to better heat the cab, but now I am thinking that it will be easier to just go with defrost only.

Do you think that with only using defrost it will heat the cab well enough? My heater job is going to be ghetto fabulous compared to how you are doing yours :D

hey Luke......

I'm splitting it between defrost and floor 50/50 for now.... eventually i'm gonna put a solenoid controlled flapper in for heat/defrost... hopefully i can make it variable... i could with a manual cable, the trick will be to do it with solenoids..

you can see in these how i basically removed the boxwall that has the 2 openings in it, to make my own diverter...

going up for defrost....

and down to the 2 "feet"

ductinstall009.jpg

that come out the floor panels..

ductinstall025.jpg

if i had to choose, one or the other.. defrost all the way... just gotta figure a way to feed that factory plastic Y piece that feeds both sides... iirc, it's a rectangular opening, once you pull the factory heat box out.. and it's like 2" x 6"? maybe.... i have it downstairs...

Yea I have to have defrost, no doubt about that. The winters here are cold and icy so it is a must. I think for now I will just fab it up to use just defrost and maybe later on down the line when I do a different dash I can do it a dif way. The 2x6 dimension sounds about right too.

sweeeeeeet......... :woot: C-note tip day..... :pimp:

lol, I earned it... he just bought my GPIO board.... :saweet:

not sure how happy i am with the hotrod flatz satin black yet... did the backsides of the composite panels... little shinier than i like.. need to play some more, I'll see.. gonna do another test batch... if it's the same, i may try a load with some Imron flattening agent tossed in..

shoulda stuck with my tried and true flattened Imron methods... :(

btw... any questions, criticisms, or suggestions, please feel free...

***** Ryoken build contemplations for the evening *****

visor ideas

and what to do with the aluminum trim on the dashpad with big gaping holes in it....

clearseats002.jpg

have some ideas on that...

Okay some suggestions, I don't remember if you are putting any kind of an inverter in this, but how about a plate with two outlets in it in one of the holes. Very important too me to keep the ol camera charged up on a wheeling trip.

Not sure about the other one though. I think you should trim it very nicely so it looks like it has a purpose leave it open and then when people ask what that is for you give some totally off the wall of what its for and see how many people go for it :D

Actually I kid with that, how about some storage room for some wet wipes of sorts. I use them all the time on the trial and miss them when I forget them.

BTW two thumbs up on the color man seriously awesome looking. I may be a little biased though as I have been known to like orange

hmmmm, goood stuff Eric, thanks.....

yeah, i will be doing an inverter down the road a bit... i had contemplated VERY briefly about wanting some DC power, and a couple AC outlets..... but honestly i haven't thought about where ANY of that will go, other than I actually want the AC outlets in the bed somewhere... mainly for tools.. i could easily sneak a dc power supply to the sides or top of the console somewhere too if need be...

I can do anything i want in the trim space... it can/could be a fullwidth facia/trim.. i definitely don't need the vents.. the one in the middle WAS cut out for a stereo, but i wont be running a head unit.. cb is overhead... storage, cubby-type stuff i hadn't even contemplated..

i have an idea that involves etched lexan and LED's... i could just stick a LMC billet trim in there..they make one without vents iirc.... but i don't know, it's not that kinda build... that reminds me of billet flame grills...

and thanks... i really think the color is gonna work out well where used...

Now this may sound weird but to me neither of those really fit your build. Everything you have built has more of a purpose than to be pretty. Just an opinion though

The reason I suggested storage is because I think you can never have enough. I use a ton of baby wipes out on the trail when I remember them, have even use them to help get off old RTV, they really are handy to have.

When I get around to building my dash I am just going to put a appropriately sized tube in there so I can just plop a can of round ones in there and have them at the ready

yeah, thats one i've been utterly horrible on is storage on this build... i mean, really really bad in the front seat area.. I'm happy with the toolwall for the back, but the only storage i have going on up front is the center console compartment which is reasonably sized.. but it is the ONLY storage in front of the B-hoop.. other than stuffing stuff under the seats!

the console ended up being function following form.. i had to.. but i managed to fit all the full-function within that form... shifters, lcd, e-brake, heat, yada, yada...

hmmmm, you did just spark something in my cranium tho.... get back to ya on that..
