here's how the door weatherstrip works out... eventually i'll add a flat piece to the door to handle the bottom... not sure but i might have a cleaner set for the doors.. i actually have 3 sets kicking around...

I REALLY need to put a wire order in..... :doah:

mmmmm that is just jaw dropping! good job Paul! I cant wait to get a different truck and make it look nice :D

when i put in my new rockers i flattened out the weatherstrip strip on the bottom and welded it in flat.i figure once i bedline it,the lip and strip would stop me from getting the floor to drain out completely when i spray out the floors.so i have weatherstrip front and rear down to where the rocker angle starts so it is almost flush with the floor and will let the water out of the front floor area.just a thought, since you already dont have the strip where you put in the box tubing rockers.
now that you have the fab done,it is coming along really quick with paint and all.good stuff.i like the soft top.it will be nice to be able to take out all the windows like you are thinkin.im still thinkin about gettin a soft top,but i dont want to ditch the hardtop yet.i bought a whole parts truck just to get the top off of it.lol.

thanks boys!

I have a VERY clean hardtop for it, tho it needs paint, as it's dark brown... I'll have to come up with a plexi, flip up back window gig to use it....

once i got the softtop, i had no intention of ever using it again really... but now that the truck will be kept outside once roadworthy, i'm gonna want the hardtop on next winter...

Not sure if i missed it or not but did you say what brand or where you got your weather stripping from.

well, here's the story.. i have 3 sets... 2 factory from the 77 and 87.. and 1 aftor market that came new in the box with the 87... the aftermarket set was the freshest obviously.. but i'm not sure which is on the truck... they where all at least slightly used.. the 77's are pretty hammered..

i'm not sure what aftermarket those where.. i didn't buy em.. and i dont remember a name on the box... could have been softseal, lmc, etc...but they where damn decent.quality..

so..... i'm really no help....

do you have any pictures of the dash pad where you had to cut holes for the roll bars just curious how it looks

sure... keep in mind this is just tucked in there with no front clips.. with the cage bar, they are a pain to install... also it is just rough cut to go in position... my dash pad is a hammered POS, so at some point, I'll have to modify a better one to fit.. or recover this one...

the easiest way is to just cut everything from the inside edge of the tube forward, in a vertical cut.... it's the only way to have it slide in..

actually.. i just looked at this...... i think i may recover the dash, and tho it doesn't bother me, i may try to do some sort of velcro flap section in front of the bar...

it's not a big deal to me... when your driving ya can't even notice really.. and i'm betting with the windshield in, you wont see much of it... but i'm thinking if ya left a section of material there, oversized, you could fold over, double the edges up on the flap, and put velcro on the end of it to secure it over in the corner..

if that makes sense... :dunno:

WAY down the list tho.. WAY....

tho i should have a sweet parts update tomorrow! :woot:

Let me know when your putting in the part where you turn wrenches. I'm good at that and would love to come help.

I second this, i'm probably 3 hrs away but when you're ready to stuff some axles under this thing i'm 6'4" and built like a linebacker, i'd love to head up you way and lend a hand.

i may try to do some sort of velcro flap section in front of the bar...

Grab some fake leather shifter boots from manual cars in the JY. A little trimming and some velcro and you'd have a nice easy way to finish out the dash around the roll cage.

i'm kinda hoping to make it an integrated part of the recover, 1 piece... not even sure i'd really need velcro at that point.... i figure if i glue the new vinyl on, and just leave a big piece there, i can cut it on 3 sides, fold them over to stiffen it, it'll probably stay in place pretty well in front of the tube.... i guess a key to that will be how it glues at the edge of the "hard" dash.....

Santa's bringing Ryoken a late present today.... :woot: could be an awesome weekend... :D

the bottom side is finished... it is a full weight hood, hinges and latch... not a raceweight... tho it feels at least a fair amount lighter than a stock metal... i'll put each on the scale to check... sitting on the sawhorses, it seems like a real nice piece.. it should be for the coin...

they sell what is called an "airplate" that fiberglasses to the underside, with a 14" hole in it for an aircleaner... but that wont work for me with the design I'm doing... so i'l be doing the airbox from the composite i've used thruout the build...

this involves a lower plate, and integrated glasswork to the underside of the hood.. including hogging out and reconfiguring the back support, etc... only prob at this point is i'm not sure if i have enough composite, might need to get some..

but i'll be working on the front clip mockup this weekend, among a few other things... :wink1:

nice looking hood and as you already know your rig is over the top. you got me interested in the composite work now looks like it would open up all kinds of options in custom work.

the composite is an absolutely killer material.. been using it for almost 20 yrs now.... FAR better than anything you could handlay, or even vacuum-bag... pretty much bulletproof, impervious to weather, etc...

it's downfall being, it's not cheap... iirc, think i was paying about $250 a 4' x 8' sheet for 3/16".. a sheet of 1/2" thick is like $550, 600... :eek1: I have a few "patented" construction techniques with it that rock..
