Damn, I just blinked my eyes, and now there's five more pages in his build, don't you sleep ;)

I think the only thing in this whole awesome build I would do different is the color of the cage,
I really liked the flat green color against the copper colored body.
But I guess that was only a base coat, right?

But as stated, only thing that matters is that you like it :waytogo:
 
the green was zinc chromate primer....

keep in mind that cage color is also the color of the motor, t-case, matches the seats, etc..
 
First off......the truck looks incredible :bow::bow: your work continues to amaze and even better inspire me (and many others) :waytogo:
I looked through a bunch of pages and couldn't find it, but, what brand hood did you end up using? There was a 79 or 80 truck in the old development I used to live in that had a very similar looking hood that I always loved, but the owner didn't know who made it.
I know some others have offered as well, if you ever need a hand with some of the heavy/ multiple person stuff I would be more then happy to head up that way some weekend and be a part of the most incredible K5 build ever, plus I could steal more ideas for mine :D
 
usbody out of fla..... it's called a 3.5" or 4" depending on where it's listed on the site.. it does actually measure 3.5" tho..

it's the only one i've found that was taller than the standard 2.5" you see, steel or glass....

nice piece.... weighed it today, it's 44 lb's... it'll probably be pushing 50 once the airbox is made... i didn't feel like digging a steel stocker out of the snow, but i will at some point... but i'd guess it's maybe 10 lb's lighter than stock.. i'll verify that tho...

you'll also notice it's not for the weak of budget... it was $785 to my door... :eek1: but i want, what i want, so it's all good... :D

Well, I paid $400 for the all steel functional cowl hood for my 78 Camaro in the 90's. I like the way yours looks.

nice....... :D i shopped a fair amount for the 80 - 87's.. all i found in a standard style cowl was 2.5".... you can get the 2.5" steel goodmark's all day long for $400.. some iffy brand fiberglass stuff for even less...

iirc, unlimited has a 6".. but that was out of the question, big to the point of obstruction, cartoonish even, throw in illegal as he!! in joysey... :eek1: and unlimited's sh*tty rep too...

but like i said, i want, what i want.. so for $300 or so, i gave myself joy! :haha:


got the cowl together today, wipers, screen, hinges, etc...
 
btw.... expect a HUGE Ryoken Rummage Sale this spring! :haha:

i spent 1/2 the day rummaging thru the attic, etc finding all kinds of goodies... and 2 trucks worth of stuff to sell! the attic is OUT OF CONTROL...:doah: :whistle:

also started regasketing the motor today and getting the hydroboost ready too..
 
oh, and after all that, i still couldn't find the round headlight buckets and retaining rings from my 77.. so if anyone has a parts truck around with round headlights, i'm looking for a set...
 
Nice hood! Looks real good, can't wait to see it copper. And my vote is to leave it the smooth copper without any letters on it.

And the gauges in the cowl work great, I put a fuel PSI gauge in the cowl on my regal, works perfect. From inside the car you can see it perfectly, but from outside the vehicle you never even know it's there. Works awesome.

What brand of hood is it?

Are you putting a 78 grill in your truck.
Please say yeah, I know you like them, from other posts that I have read.

I believe, unless he has changed his mind, his plan was to use an expanded metal grill. The 78 grill won't work in an 87 front clip, they are totally different setups. He would have to change front fenders, hood, hinges, and some other parts to use a 78 grill.
 
yup, running round headlights and the expanded steel grill... probably LED turn signals...

I'll have to check into what, if any, bulb upgrades can be done with the oldschool dual filament round headlights..

hopefully the weather is decent this weekend so i can sandblast the rad support..

Are they 7" diameter? If so there is a set of spendy, but very bright, LED headlights available. Just a thought, not like you need another one though.:grin: I saw them on Trucks, but of course they aren't available in a rectangular version, but they sure appeared to put out a ton of light compared to a halogen bulb.

Here is a link to them, and a link to the catalog page is at the bottom. Like I said, very nice looking and they do put out a ton of light. DOT approved which is a big plus.

Edit: did some searching, that 3 year warranty comes at a high cost, around $300 each bulb or a pair for about $550.
 
wow, big spendy... think i'll just pick up a set of silverstar replacement bulbs for now...

another thing for the rummage sale, the 4 upgraded LMC headlights i was running..
 
Well you did ask so I thought I would put it out there. Everything else is state of the art, why not the headlights too? I agree, Silverstars are the way to go for price and light output. Someday I will get around to putting them into Krusty, probably about the time I get the lights working on the dash so I can see how fast I am going, how much fuel is in the tank, and what the water temp is.
