87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

Lol never looked at one up close haha.

Well if it bonds better to the primer, and paint wouldnt that help the paint stick better theirfore stopping the salt alot more?? Idk just really dont want this thing to rot out and i didnt quite get it as undercoated as i would have liked before winter. I ran herculiner bedliner along the bottom foot under the trim and inner fenders as much as possible to keep out the salt, but thats too hard to get in tight spaces. Just figured you know alot about painting so you would be the guy to ask.

Love your truck by the way, its georgeous lol :eek1:

oh, it definitely helps overall with salt.. best raw metal primer you can use...

and always feel free with the questions... :D

Where could the average Joe pick some up? Lowes? Home depot?

eh, it's getting harder and harder to find... i get it thru my marine suppliers.. lewis marine, mesco, etc..any boat store will carry it, west marine, etc.. doubt you'd find it at homo depot, etc, but i've never looked... even autobody supply stores are carrying it less and less... it's possible it may be found in an autoparts store, but it's a crapshoot these days...

one thing i will say is this... be prepared for lots of sales pitch stuff on alot of the selfetching primers out on the market... some aren't bad, and are certainly better than an average primer for raw steel, BUT they dont hold a candle to zinc chromate...

the reason it's hard to find and all these selfetchers are out is because they are trying to do away with the zinc.... you wont find the zinc in all the new stuff..

oh, and it's readily available online... greg and the boys have been buying it online.. moeller is what we've been using.. i used to use tempo brand, but they got bought or something...

google search for moeller zinc chromate

well, i have an unfair advantage over most... i get it thru work for about $5, 6 a can... but 9 is reasonable.. i've seen some places charge upwards of 20...

actually the only thing i really need to put zinc on at this point is shock towers and my back bumper.. few misc parts here and there...

Yah i figured after i saw a bunch of guys on here using it, its gotta be pricy so i thought 9 sounded nice, maybe ill order 5 or 6 cans just in case like you said they get rid of it everywhere

Its all good cause you didnt know and asked. The urge to tease is very strong but im resisting.I get that alot on my TBI motor. "thats a funny looking carb" or "your only running a 2 barrel?"

Haha thanks man, nice to not get s*** all the time because I dont know everything about trucks lol. But i have had my fare share of vehicles breaking (like all the time) and never brought any of them to a mechanic haha. http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2856209#post2856209

Re: your car-puter...

I'm still looking at doing the same. Now that the Android (Linux) operating system can be installed on desktops and laptops, it may be worth a look. It's seriously looking to be THE next big platform. Even some OEMs are looking at using it as the basis for their vehicle's entertainment and navigation systems.

It's got a MUCH simpler, less "computer" interface that may work better in an automotive application. I've just started to explore the idea, but found several forum threads in a Google search about this very subject.

Oh yeah... Android's Nav software ROCKS compared to the Sprint-branded navigation app included with my new Evo phone. I have the Android app, Sprint Nav and Google maps (with GPS support) on the phone. The Android Nav wins hands-down, it does turn-by-turn with a computerized voice, just like a stand-alone GPS does, and has the smoothest motion I've seen on a GPS. I think I like it better than my stand-alone Sony GPS (which I chose after seeing the Tom Tom and Garmin offerings).

And, of course, being that this is a Linux-based smartphone platform, it multi-tasks well. You could be listening to music while running the GPS, or surfing the web, viewing pics or movies, etc... Very nice.

I plan to dual-boot my netbook soon with Android to test out its feasibility for this application, but I think we may have a winner here. I just searched this thread, and realized it's been almost a year since the subject was discussed. A lot's happened since then. :)

I'll put up some links when I get more info. In the meantime, keep it in the back of your mind... ;)

please do... hopefully this'll be the first project on the rig next summer when it's back driving...

Just an update...

The iPad has meant good things for Android and handheld Linux devices in general.

There's a whole crop of Android-based tablets on the market now. I have a mini one, the screen being only 3.2". It's sold as an "Internet tablet". It literally does everything my phone (also running Android) can do, except make phone calls and GPS... Of course, I can lash it to an external GPS receiver using Bluetooth (which is built in) and make phone calls using Skype via Wifi... :D

The 7" version could be a PERFECT car PC. It's got the nicer capacitive touchscreen which is, of course, multi-touch. The media player software available seems to be very good. (I only use mine as a media player). It has the same features as the smaller one, except with the much nicer screen. No moving parts. All of the customization of the Android phones, plus it's easy to add the Android Market (to get more apps), even though it's technically unsupported.

Built in Wifi, of course...

There's a TON of forum support for these devices, as well.

Oh yeah... Someone's already working on porting Megasquirt Tuner Studio over to Android... :D :saweet:

very cool Jon... i'll have to research it a bit.... definitely have a little time before i get to that point.... thanks!

well... while i'm in here.. here's a few photos i took this morn... didn't get to sandblasting this weekend, so i tinkered... little nippy to be out there blasting anyway.... :eek1: :haha:

Boy, it look like you're ready to put the whole blazer back together.
Then I remembered, you still have to do the axles.:doah:
You already have a transmission? If I remember correctly, your whole tear down started when your 700r4 blew up.

yeah, i've got the BTO 700 penciled in for may.. that's the big coin item... I'm actually gonna put the empty mock-up case back in for now...

i've actually got everything for the 60 except the bronze kingpin bushings... i'm kinda chomping at the bit to do that, as i've never set gears up before... but i'm waiting till i get the front clip fitted and painted to clear out some room in the dungeon to have some clean work space... ala Greg... :haha:

oh, and here's a few other shots that show some final finish, etc... gonna put the winch in this week, and the bumper skid...

That firewall is just sick. I mean everything looks awesome, but the firewall just blows me away.

Nice work Paul :waytogo:

You can use the old shock mount as the base for your new shock mount.
Just like ORD used on this set up.

hmmmm, interesting.... I have what i think is a pretty good plan for the mounts, but i'll keep that in mind...

gotta get my hydroboost squared away, so i can get the column and xj shaft in...

reminder - call about that hydroboost boot tomorrow..

Paul, things are looking awesome!
Hey when you hook up the hydro boost, can you get some detailed shots of the lines to/from the box and the booster? Are you going to run a hydro boost ram too?
