87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

No problem, that thing is over $400 several other places, especially if you get the one with the larger race adaptor. That's the best deal I found when I bought it, so if you look around for that style carrier bearing puller you will probably only find higher prices. The only thing I don't like about it is, it comes with a bench stand for regular shop use, but doesn't come with a case to put it away when you are done with it. (you don't really want to be working with bearings with dirty tools). I found ARB sells the same style tool with a case, but they won't sell the case seperate. So when I get around to it I'll buy a plastic toolbox and make a case out of that. In the meantime I just keep it on the stand in a box.

yeah, i see the ARB one for $389... i'd probably do the same, the $279 and find a box... i'm pretty good about that, i seem to come up with all kinds of various plastic toolbox type stuff thru work.. must be the marina thang.. :haha: heck, you could probably find a pelican case for under the difference..

**** trying to get some blasting done today... the surface rust on the support is being stubborn... at least it's all there, the one from my 87 is gone at the bottom... just dressed up the winch too with a little fresh paint.. see about getting that in tonight.. ****

Ryoken - nice build up man . . fun to watch the progress.

Since I spent so much time reading up on your rig I just wanted to add something: the user named "Buddy" was a frequent addition to this thread but I saw that he dropped out after the tailgate thing. I bring it up because I can clearly see what happened: when you replied on post number 2946 (http://coloradok5.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2791194&postcount=2946), a portion of your reply stated "wow, thanks man.... we're good, but I certainly appreciate the offer... " - that was in response to the offer to bring the tailgate to you, not for the tailgate itself. I think Buddy thought that response was for the tailgate itself, which is why he asked for it because he thought you had turned it down. I had to read it again because at first I thought the same thing Buddy did, until I went back and saw where I missed it. Not sure that it matters, but just wanted to stick up for him because, unlike other forums I've been on, this one really seems like there are a bunch of cool like-minded people on here and wanted to point it out since I haven't seen him post on this thread since, and that was back on 09-21-2010.

Again - not sure if anybody cares but hopefully it'll clear things up a bit especially since it seems that you guys got along great until that post.

Didn't mean to go all Oprah on you guys . . back to business as usual.

Oh yeah and now I'm subscribed to this thread!

hey thanks Jimmy... i certainly hope i didn't offend him or anything... he's always been a great contributor to my thread.. it was just one of those intraweb uncommunications... :doah: i thought i was pretty clear, but sometimes thats only in MY head.. :doah::o

**** i should just buy stock in mcmaster Carr.... another hardware order tonight....

looks like I'm gonna ramf*ck 2 CS144's on the ps side of the mill... *****

Thanks for sticking up for me, but it wasn't really necessary. I had forgotten about the whole thing. Plus, it was Avery that ticked me off, not ryoken. ;)

I'm still around, still check in anytime I get an email update, just haven't had much to comment about. No hard feelings, I figured it out as well, but didn't stress too much about it. I'm hard to get riled up & even when I do, I cool off pretty quick.

It looks great Ryoken. I'm sure you didn't lose much sleep over the whole tailgate issue. I know I didn't.

Later,
Buddy

a decent amount i would say.. it covers pretty good... you could probably do 2 med coats on a whole fender, inside and out i would say... heavy enough that its fully covered...

greg or norcal69 could probably chime in as to how much coverage they think it gets... sometimes my perspective is a little skewed... :screwy::ignore:

I gotta say, I'm probably almost as excited as you are about getting to see this thing in paint. been trying to keep up on this thread for the last year or so and it's not easy. every time I come back it seems i missed about 20 or 30 posts. always like reading it though, makes me want to go out and work on mine, even in this extremely cold weather here in Michigan.

apparently i didn't feel 22 bolts was enough holding my bumper on... :haha: so i changed out the 6 main ones for these 1/2" fine grade 8 flanged bolts and flanged pinch locks...

winch is in... but i'll have to pull the top mount back off to change/figure out what i'm gonna do with the engagement lever... but i can't do that till i get the rad support mocked in, and my remote filter mounts set up... it may be a cantilevered setup.. i'll see when i get the filters in there...

top mount out...

Your frame almost looks fake it is so clean, it's even more so than the factory ever did, on anything, ever.

I've been found out, the whole build has been a figment of Photoshop! :haha:

thanks boys....

here's a couple from the other folder... here's how tight the winch is to the rail on the one side..

Photoshoping bastard!! You tricked us all!!

But I don`t care, that is some sweet trickery you got going on!:waytogo:

Can`t wait to see more of your foolishness and jokes.

Awesome work man!:bow::bow:

You can't photoshop photos that are as blurry as the first 98% of them in this thread... :wink1: glad you got that new camera. Made a world of difference! :D

eh, i can barely get it to take pics 1/2 the time, or upload... :haha: should really read the instructions... :doah::whistle: i'm soooo lazy when it comes to that stuff these days.... 20 yrs ago i would have known the thing inside out in 2 days..

well, my XP tower sh*t the bed this morn.... i'm on my old 98 SE machine... :doah:

I'm that way with techy stuff. Just don't grab my interest too much, so I flub along trying to make it work.
Agreed with the fake look too. I keep thinking that engine is one of those cast plastic ones for mock up.
Really like the top winch mount too.
Good stuff Paul :waytogo:

Looking great! IF anyone is interested i have to share this bumper building tip. Perhaps you know about it already but chose to go a different route. Instead of doing the small bit of weld at the bottom of the main bumper tube, Make your frame mount plates big enough at the tube end to allow you to slide the tube threw them. THen, not only do they have much much more weld but they are captured as well. Allow my crappy painting to demonstrate.

Its the same way off-road tech builds there bumpers.

Despite the way it may look, the main tube is actually one piece. Not three.

How do they get the bent tube through the holes? Or do they bend it afterwards?
I don't think it is a matter of getting the tube though both plates as it is matter of sliding one plate at a time over the tube.

Btw. it look like that tube on that aftermarket bumper is 3" diameter. It looks too big.
