87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

cuz I'm going back to running the trans thru it... sucky thing, in addition to having to mod the shroud, which shouldn't be too bad, I just have enough on my plate already, is the manual, universal one I ran was like $150, the new one, slightly larger with auto provision is $300...

If you are that worried about it just use a thermostat to bypass the cooler. Assuming your external cooler is big enough? I use my AC condensor as my trans cooler and never get's over 170 so far even in this heat. I also don't have any bypasses and have never had a problem with it being too cool, but a thermostatically controlled cooler bypass valve would definitely take care of that. It would save you a lot of work right?

oh, I'm definitely not running "cooler only" again.... it's great here in Joysey in the summer, consistent 160 to 180, winter forget it..... when it's 15 out you can run the truck for an hr before it breaks 100... I'm pretty certain it aided immensely in the demise of my 700..

I'm doing a BTO unit, their warranty wants it thru the rad... considering I'm spending probably 2500 on the trans, I'll do what they want.. 300 is chump change compared to that..

throw in the fact, personally, I'm not crazy about bypass valves... it's great in theory, but it is a fail point, and potentially a huge FAIL at that...

When you put it that way it makes sence to me.

I got two tranny coolers hanging on my wall that I don`t want to put on because of reading your posts about the trans not getting warm enough to get the condensation out of it... I don`t drive my truck long enough to get it hot most of the time. So the stock setup is good for me.

don't get me wrong, I'm all for killer trans cooling, thus why i ran "cooler only" before.. if i lived in the south, i'd probably do it... i will be running a huge earl's cooler on the new setup, so hopefully even with the rad heating the oil, the cooler will still get me down to that 175ish range in the summer..

hopefully if the next 2 days don't kill me, i'll be getting a bunch done this weekend... walked in tonight, looked in the dungeon and said "fock that" and came up to the AC.... :o

you need AC in the dungeon Paul, Its the only way I'm getting anything done lately on mine.

I ran it last year, just haven't bothered putting it in this yr.. honestly, I'm so drained when I come in, it's more the energy than anything else... being hot in the dungeon pales in comparison to the frying pan I'm in daily...

it's not uncommon for me to come home and pass out for 2 or 3 hrs.... then I end up awake 1/2 the night on the comp... :doah: :haha:

as I see, now that its past midnight.

Try to get that back in shape Paul, I feel for ya there man. Luckily mines been doing pretty good.

watching Deathproof at the moment... :haha: makes me miss my Mopars...:doah:

and thanks brudda!

Whats funny about deathproof is that I had a flat black nova just like that car... Very little interior, flat black and silver rally wheels.

Whats even cooler is that I put that crapbox together months before the movie came out. I should sue for something.

Well it's your rig so do whatever you feel makes you comfortable. I have been running cooler only for a while now, never had any problems with it. I haven't always had a stall converter either. What your tranny fluid milky at all? My guess is something else killed it but I guess we'll never know for sure, and operating temp definitely won't hurt it either.

And 2500? For what trans, 700R4? You could of had a 4L80E that withstands 750 hp for that amount. Although maybe not necessary for your plans.

At least your past the denial stage. :D

I used to do that for about a year several years back, I had to force myself to go do something when I got home, then I slept much better at night.

no strawberry quick... but it definitely had major issues getting up to a decent operating temp during the cold months.... it's demise very may well have been something else, but like i said, to get warranty on the new one, I'll do it, not a huge deal..

I didn't want a computer controlled trans... I want to prove the 700 isn't the piece of sh*t everyone makes it out to be... the fully modded rmvb 700 is about 2 g's, i figure with a good converter and shipping it'll be 2500... i bet with a stand alone controller, shipping, etc a 4L80 would be in the same range...

since I'm single again, I don't worry about my schedule... I have noone to answer to... I can come home and have cupcakes for dinner if I want... :haha:

Quoted for honesty, When i was single I could just decide to not answer my phone for days and only my true buddys would stop by and make sure im alright. Now if I dont answer a text for a half hour I must be dead laying under a bridge somewhere.

I like the 700's and I think they're great when built right, also maintained and used with reason.

Cant beat a 700r4 like a TH350 or TH400 and expect any sort of a service life out of them.

sorry guys, not the kind of update you'd like.... just wanted to post up a status kinda thing....

haven't worked on the rig in about 3 weeks now, mainly due to the heat.... I was hoping a big parts order would put me back in the mood, in other words, nut up and work thru the pain...

I have $1500 that I was about to make a big order with Eastcoast gear, but unfortunately the Nogo's axles are about to fall out, so I need to put that coin towards a daily driver....

Tho I'm still gonna try and get back in the dungeon and start pounding some labor out soon... ton's of "free" work that always needs to be done.. just kinda blows I was looking to do a nice toy order and got derailed... :(

btw, I'm looking for a pretty clean 87 to 91 GM pickup, and am trying not to spend more than $2500 to 3 grand.. so if anyone in the tristate area comes across something, I'd be grateful for a heads up...

yeah, that's right, my yr break is wrong there.... I'd prefer old, but obviously the older ya get, the more difficult to find, so I'm figuring the newer is more than likely what'll turn up....
