87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

....after reading through.. 446?! pages of the hopefully ongoing Ryoken Saga over the last few days/nights, I just had to get around to create an account and leave a few words. While it's certainly not a vehicle fitting to my own tastes in a truck, the K5 and it's build thread have by far been the most motivational push for me in a long time. The build is amazing, the attention to detail is pleasantly disturbing and the community in general seems surprisingly nice and supportive.

As soon as I can find myself a good ~91' Suburban here in Norway to serve as my DD/long term project/therapy session I'll be back with a proper introduction, build thread and newbish questions. Until then I'll just lurk a bit more, I guess.. what an amazing haven of information and inspiration this place is. I should probably hit the bed now though, we're just shy of 10am here as it is. Then I seem to have 91 more pages waiting for me on the Mutt thread...

And for the man behind the thread, Ryoken, I sure hope you're still making great improvements health-wise. Looking forward to see more of what you and the other amazing/crazy contributers here have been up to..

(Edit: Oh, wonderful, post made the top of a brand new page. How very inconspicuous and not embarrassing at all... *waves hands meekly to onlookers*)

thanks man.. :D collecting dust for the time being, but not forgotten.....

This line is truly beautiful. I especially like the "pleasantly disturbing" part. I am awestruck at the way those two words put together like that describe this build with such accuracy... Furthermore, i love the fact that you say we are "surprisingly" nice and sportive. Again, what perfect description...

norgeek, Welcome. I feel you will be an excellent addition to the nice/supportive community we have amassed here. Write more would you?

That was one of the most epic introductions in an epic thread. My mind is seriously blown at the moment.

Oh, wonderful, now I'll be afraid of not living up to the first impression :P Build thread and introductory post coming up :) Sorry about the delay, life got carried away yet again.

Where can I find some of the flat, countersink style bolts like in your post # 1520?

just read through the whole thread awesome inspiration! very cool tube work and gives me many great ideas for my k5! looking forward to reading the mutt thread. :waytogo:

so......

my poor K5 thread.... :(

not an update per se, but I am doing something for the rig.... since I'm strongly thinking of doing links, and want to be able to move the rig around the dungeon better and work on it this winter, I've decided to build a much better, mobile cradle set up for it, as opposed to the saw horses.....

brought home some casters I had at work, blowgun for size reference..

wish all 4 spun 360, but oh well, it's what i have.. tomorrow night i'm running out to my buds place for some steel.. cheap and cost effective steel is the name of the game since i need decent footage to build it.. probably 2 x 2 uprights, etc..

I'll post pics when i get going on it...

I think you can imagine how much an anti-rust, surface-prep nut like me has always wanted one... :haha: the idea of being able to work on the underside like it was a topside would be badarse... just don't have that kinda room... :doah:

I was tossing the idea around of just building it out of wood.. and if the price of the steel is too much, i may still take that road.. but for now the tentative plan is a combination of maybe angle iron, some square tube, etc..

At least you got something goin on
Man. Blew out my knee 4 months ago on a 8 ft half tube. Havnt dine anything on mine since. Any new update is still good to see.

that sucks... rip up some ligaments? I assume it's more than cartilidge if it's been bothering ya that long.. did they go in?

after 6 surgeries, i feel ya... 2 full acl's, 2 meniscus, 2 lig stitch up's... one good thing is, they are vastly better at all that sh*t these days than 20, 30 yr's ago... my first meniscus gig in 1976 was a 6" scar and 3 monthes on crutches! :eek1: :haha: now, your walking later that day... :pimp:

hope it feels better mang... :deal:

Yeah thanks dude. Totally reckage on most if the knee. Both patella tendons,3ligaments,and carriage damage. He asked how many times I had messed it up before I totally blew it this time. Haha. He said he was surprised I could walk right with all the previous damage he had to clean up to even start the repairs. Haha. I still don't have acl and mcl. He said he's surprised I rehabbed it so quick to get back to work do soon. Just got a cortisone shot yesterday and its much better now. Lil crispy when I walk but I can at least work.

There is a guy that has got a backyard type of body shop close to my place...he had a rotisserie outside with a 70 cuda body on it.

I thought of you!:thumb:

I'm really torn on what I want to do for my next, and probably last build, the 42 Willys I've talked about, or another early 70's Cuda...

not sure which would be more expensive... :doah: :haha:
