Did I miss it? Whats the foam for?
it's to fill the factory voids in the hood... stiffen up the rest of the inner panel around my center foamed work, it was a bit flexy....
so, in my "hood drying time, work on Ryoken's Lab™ " moments, I've been repainting my workbench and 50 yr old, 247 pound, Snappy box that sits on it....
well, stumblefoot here tripped and dropped the bench grinder on the shaft when moving it..
it was an old weak POS anyway.. now it's noisy and not long for this world.. but as least I didn't drop it on my foot!
so I think I'm gonna upgrade to a custom pedastal mounted set up... I'd really like some $500 to $1000 Baldor unit, but I'm eyeballin this 1 hp Eastwood unit.. $200 is about all I can justify.. build my own stand/cabinet... buffer on one side, wire wheel on the other..

should have the hood bodywork done today or tomorrow.. possibly in primer.. or I may finish off the metal gargoyle screen first before priming it... got the round rod frame bent up, just gotta cut the expanded.. either way, it's getting there.. been working on it nightly for a couple weeks now..

2 speed is good...and as I have found out...extra power is always good...especially when buffing...
my stupid bench grinder won't buff crap without bogging down...need lots of speed and torque...I say go for the big one...

It has to be more motivating to workin that space now that it's got a fresh cost of paint and really nice lighting..... Though I have to be honest, I think your window drapes leave a bit to be desired.

I'll call in some favors from some old Jaws connections....
We will need a blue-eyed brunette for support, bumpers, cutaways and segways....oh and to hand you tools while you work your magic...
I will also be the cameraman....
The first project will be overhaulin my rig...ok....yours first so there is room for mine.....
This will be Spikes first all squarebody show....we need to work on getting some sponsors...free tools for the show...

funny you mention sponsors, I just bought 6 banners for Ryoken's Lab™..
well, my fingers are bleeding.. gonna be next weekend for the hood, ran out of some materials... stupid amounts of sanding involved here...
but speaking of Ryoken's Lab™, I just bought the 2 speed Eastwood buffer unit... no pads, just the motor... just gonna run a couple wire wheels on it for now.. but what I'm stoked on is the buffing station I'm making...
I have a real nice quality oldschool 2 drawer filing cabinet... I'm gonna put 2 wheels at one end, 2 feet at the other, so it can be moved around easy, yet stable.. perfect height..
and I'm gonna mount the buffer to the top.. out at the drawer edge.. than the drawers can keep all my buffing pads (2+2 reg buffs too) and than all my compounds, polishes, spurs, etc in the top one.. keep em clean, wouldn't get sh*t all over em like the eastwood unit
than behind the buffer, the back top section of the cabinet would be perfect for a little lip frame, that a square milk crate could sit in there.. the cab is 15" wide, the crates are 13.. than I could keep various wiping/polishing rags in there, whatever coumpound i was currently using, parts to be polished, etc...
as long as I don't get into polishing intakes again...

so, as I said, I pulled the trigger on that 2 speed buffer last night, gonna do the station, yada.. cool..
go to work today, mention the story to a guy I know that was in the marina... he shows back up at lunch and gives me a bench grinder motor almost identical to the one I dropped...
performance is about the same too, 1/3 hp I think..
so... now I've effectively got 4 wheels to work with...

I really want/wanted to put a plastic divider wall up, to have a clean side/dirty side, but it hasn't worked out yet... sucks cuz I've been dusting the sh*t out of the entire lab with all the hood longboarding stuff going on... must have blown out the shop a dozen times in the last 2 weeks...
I don't know for the lathe yet.. I'm sure something will turn up to use it on parts/rig wise, spacers, shiftknobs, sumthin... I wanna make a set of line-up tool/drifts at some point.. but I need a live center for the tailstock to do those... but i did get the actual tailstock functioning tonight... just no live center for it yet.. i can get one for like $25...

I'd really like to have a workshop with a double size stall with a lift for mechanical things like maintenance, rebuilding, grinding, welding; stuff that wouldn't matter too much if oil, grease, and gunk gets on the parts, floor or bench. The general equipment of a shop would be in here as well.
Another stall to have for paint and body prep, that would be an oil, grease, contaminant free area for bodywork and parts prep.
And another for final paint prep and spray work.
The one more for finish assembly.
That should cover about a 32x60 building!
