87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

Don't do it. It will jack up the aerodynamics...........

Oh wait its a brick.
I think it looks good but flat works too.

gonna leave it... if i do the flapper down the road, I'll just have to paint the outside too...

I drove a 70 with a functioning flapper for almost 2 yrs... stock it goes all the time.. it never got annoying, it's not huge...... you can tweak em to vary how easily they open too..

tho if I do it on this hood, I'm gonna bump the door opening size a bit, to keep it proportional to the cartoonish large cowl it already is... stock size wouldn't look right...

I just think the door needs to be flat... if that peak ran back onto the flapper, i think it might look odd when opening.... but I'm sure you could have it start a couple inches in front of the flapper and have it look badarse too...

we'll see...

my goal is to have all panels in paint by march 1... including Avery's tailgate...

pic of said white flapper Chevelle...

the black malibu had a 327 in it..

need more money... gotta think about starting a bit of OT here and there... in the cold..

buying WAY too many toys... :eek1: new tools, lathe stuff, parts, more tools, etc, yada... :doah:

but I'm also gonna bang a big tube order in 2 weeks... :woot: :haha:

should have the hood in primer on the weekend... that will be a big step forward...

oh, anyone reading this had Al's Liner on something for a while now? 2 yr report/review?

I personally did not have good luck with the al's liner. I applied it to the bottom of my cab, and it peeled off in sheets. It was probably something I did in prep or application. I have 2 more full kits that I have yet to use. Mainly because I have not found out what went wrong.

well that sucks...

looking for something catalyzed for the K5 floor... I want to run the rubber crumbs..

You can probably make it work. I tried it on a scrap transmission tunnel with no prep work to get a feel for the gun. It was as tough as nails on the scrap test piece. But had no luck on the cab floor. Definitely want a good respirator on its pretty potent stuff.

I dig the flapper, but it is something that either way the truck is bada** with or without. I like the body line more than I would like it flat and with a flapper. Awesome looking progress!

168 hrs from now I'll be on the phone ordering many domly sticks of goodness... :woot: rear bumper/tire carrier time....

if I had a chuck, I could cut steel... :doah:

you can kinda see what ya would need to do.. kind of a tear drop slope at the back of the new peak end.. but honestly, my first thought still stands, it would look goofy with it that short, and much snottier all flat..

but I'm not gonna do it... it's a f*ckton of work to remove the whole peak correctly...

as mentioned, I think it'll be damn neat anyway with the gargoyle screen and airpain... everything underneath satin black.. and I haven't given up hope on gauges yet... I have a plan... :deal:

oh, whole hood copper, no stripes.. with COWL INDUCTION in satin black lettering on the sides... probably some vinyl ones slightly oversized in a cool font...

or maybe even a chromed one done in black powdercoat...

i think i'm gonna get the fancy sidemarkers, and do the chrome surround in satin black for the K5...

Any chance you have a center for the tail stock end?

Me thinks with a bit of ingenuity, a live center and some drive dogs (think old school centered grinding) we could be turning steel between centers. Not the best but doable I think. Only thing that could get beat up would be the set screw in he drivers.

I'd look for pics to describe but Im on limited brain cells and time.

Btw any pics of the "cutting tool" parts you got with the lathe?
This is kinda my thing, and I will not settle for Ryoken turning with subpar carbide.

nah, no live center yet... it's on my list... the tail stock needs a bit of work still too... I actually have 2, have to see about combining them to get 1 working one..

no big, I'll have a chuck or 2 in the next week or so.. probably gonna start with a pair of 3 and 4 jaw 6"er's... but almost had an 8" last night..

I did get a huge variety of cutter bits and tool holders with it.. eventually I'd like to get a quick change set up for it... I really haven't inspected the bit's other than to sort them into stock size in different tupperware containers at this point.. what's HSS, Carbide, etc at this point, no clue... i'll get some pics of all that stuff when I get into my first projects.....

don't know what that is just yet, but I'm betting it's gonna be fun!! :woot: :haha:
