at $400. :eek1: :eek1: :eek1:

I found a company that will dip your existing valve covers with a custom hydrocarbon coating. Price list says they start at $50

I am sure that they could match the Moroso red that you had...or even do something crazy custom

Here is a set of standard black that they did for somebody

here's the red ones...

was gonna do the matching air cleaner too...

The cool thing is that if you do a search on Hydro Coatings...there are a ton of places that offer that service...apparently is is a fairly simple process...you can get almost anything hydrocarbon coated...

You might look into to getting the stuff to do it yourself...it appears that DuPont sells the chemicals...

Hey, check this out...not the greatest video but it shows the process...
the coating is clear...the color comes from whatever the piece is base painted and the carbon film covers it all

I bet you could do that in some Lowes container...Washtub, Plastic tub....just need the chemicals and correct carbon sheet

meh, I'd rather get a software controlled small engraver.... probably like 12volyguy has...

so, onto crazier and way, way future stuff...

anyone remember the last discussion of labeling for my switches, breakers in the glove, etc?

and I was inclined to have my bud hand letter it? we talked about rub/transfer decals and such? it's like page 4 of this novel.. :haha:

anyway... the edge-lit tech.. :eek1:

small engraved, flushmount, plexi strips for the various open sections... engraved lettering, plexi lit.. readable off for during the day, but lit with park lights for night switch locating....

that would be tricky to do...... but neat....

hmmmm, me thinks building edgelit sign stuff could be fun retirement work.... :haha:

kinda like this...

but engraved and edge-lit, not just a bulb behind clear and a printed name...

Ouch! Would be awesome to do it enough to make that pay for itself though, them light up signs are sweet

travel the swap meet/car show circuit in a semi like Wades.. :saweet:

this is really the kind of biz Scott (MrK5) would be side-tracking off into.. he's already got the cliental, similar equip, layout knowledge, etc..

the other big staple for that engraving biz is, trophies... YYYAAAAAWWNNNN....... :haha:

eh, I'll get the router thingy for my dremel and see how that works out for the bigger dash stuff.. small name ones might actually be something I could farm out when the time came..

where's the light coming from that lights up those trucks?

I'd actually like to learn how to bend real neon tube....I love old neon signs...

I've made something similar for gifts. Problem for me is that we have too much overhead to be cost effective on something small like that. We did just make a large 2'x8' sign like that tho.

cool, nicely done..

didn't know you had an engraver.. or is that a chemical etch or something?

could you conceivably do small font letter engraving like I was mentioning in plexi? for my switches? ya know maybe a strip 1" wide and a foot long with like a dozen words down it... like 2 12"s long, and 4 6"s.... or even just the engraving, I can cut to fit...

WIPERS, FAN, NITROS.....

something in that kinda size range? kinda dainty I suppose...

1/4" thick stuff works great for me with the one LED I like using on the side..

that would be sooo badarse looking, yet extremely functional... do the dual color amber/green choice...

We have a cnc router with a 50" x 100" bed.

Size is limited to the bit size. The smallest diameter we have is 1/16". Unless we go to a conical bit. With the conical bit small letters are not an issue. The letters would have a bevel look. I really like the looks of it.

The big thing to recognize doing this with a cnc is that all of the outside corners will be rounded.

f*ck yeah, I wanna do this...

ya lost me with the rounded corner bit tho.. :dunno: I think I get ya tho...

sure a bevel cut would be good.. it's probably brighter...

and these would be on top, so you could see them in daylight..

the biggest issue would just be getting the wording on proper centerlines for each switch, centered, spacing and such.. fitting it.. like I said, I can cut down to size too.

i'll have to go down, figure out sizing, what each would have on it, etc.. draw something up for ya.. and we'll see about doing this if it's not too huge of a nuisance for ya along with the stickers I need..............

charge me what it takes.. I think it'd be one of those good "attention to detail" build things...and it'd be nice to know what the 42 switches do.. :haha:

it'd be something like this Scott....

the lower section is 8" x 1" x say 1/4" thick..

the top is the switches.. all the switch centers are 1".. it works out pretty good..

this is just to see how things fit, give an idea, cutout and somewhat layed in.. not the actual switch layout.. forget what font size that is, it's just arial bold..... note trying to maximize font size..

100_0814_zps8b3aa280.jpg

all these would just be 1/4 clear acrylic.. and like I said, as long as the printing spacing is online with that, I can trim it down to size....

I would need 7 of these... in a couple different configs..

seem doable without too much hairpulling?

same size letters in the glove.. do it as a single piece.. carry the same font thruout...
