87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

I totally understand how this is possible, my wife and I bought a house last year and in this past year all i've managed to do is bob the front and rear, and sorta install a cage. There is a long list but not enough time it seems! I always say though, it owes me nothing, so it can sit and I can get it done when it gets done. thanks for the updates.

thanks for the replies guys..

yeah, it sucks, but I just had to take a look at my life and what I should do, vs what I "want" to do.... I just can't justify the huge expenditure of cash the K5 needs for something that's going to be pretty frivolous... Mutt is a much smarter investment of my time and funds these days... and that's really the whole kick in the nads aspect of it, the hard part, eleventy thousand hr's of blood, bourbon and soul have been poured into it, now it just needs a bucket O' coin thrown at it... the easy, fun part...

on that note.... hadn't really thought about the drivetrain, or rig, for that matter in a while.. once i had pretty much decided to make it a trailer queen to some extent, i began questioning the 700r4 choice... and Beags, if i'm gonna change the motor, i would probably just go 5.3 or 6.0.. Mutt's BB is pathetic and not worth building IMO, if i was gonna go that route i would appropriate a 496 out of one of the boats...

hopefully i can get back to it in a couple years once Mutt get's the 6BT......

Stock drivetrain, tbi motor (thought you had one in it anyways?) 700r4 because they work great built right. Cheap drivetrain, they are everywhere.

Skip the trailer queen thing. OD and drive it on the road, and take the pup out camping in it and hit some 2 tracks along the way.

Then drive it out for some time to play in the sandbox next summer.

X2

I have spent the last 3 years enjoying the shit out of my blazer, and I learned alot from it. It may not be pretty, and it may not be perfect, but dammit it has been the most fun ever to just go play with it when I want and drive to and back and not have to deal with the trailering bull$hit. Doing everything PERFECT from the start is awesome, but shit, you could die tomorrow, why not go have some fun with the thing.

Make that X3, nothing but good points.

Thought I was the only one that had to bump my own thread
:haha:

well, i was gonna do it a couple weeks ago when i was saving all the pics from the thread.. just haven't felt like typing it out...

basically it's a bunch of what adam said with other stuff mixed in... megasquirt is out.. if anything, in that regard, it'd be an LS swap of some form.. but also, it's a re-evaluatiion of what parts i currently have after the Mutt pilfer, what has been replaced, and figure out what i need to do to even get some 1/2 tons back under it temporarily...

even down to re-evaluating the drivetrain now that a dizzle Mutt with a gooseneck is definitely in the future...

on the down side of all that is, that there is effectively negative coin flow to this project for an undetermined length of time..

FINISHING MUTT TO THE END, WILL REMAIN THE PRIORITY...

but.... this rig NEEDS to be finished, in one form or another... just too many neat ideas to ignore.....

funny, never saw those posts Adam.. cool.. thanks..

yeah, bump.... some thoughts coming on this build soon... things are gonna change here...
Glad to hear it! Adam makes good points. No sense letting the perfect be the enemy of the good. Nothing you do to make it drivable and enjoyable in the near term can't be undone when you want to upgrade later down the road.

I'd love to see this build end up on the road someday soon.

No sense letting the perfect be the enemy of the good. .

somebody should tattoo that on me... ;)

thanks... the pic saving really got me thinking... i'm in zero position to be talking about this.. and my time can definitely be spent elsewhere..

obviously a 6BT swap in my immediate future makes this all silly talk, but sh*t that needs to be considered..

but i WILL find the time to move this project along over the next few months.... i have a new steering box for it.. i do have rear suspension for it.. some other stuff i can be doing...

still.. to this point.... the next $200 that ever get's spent on this rig is a windshield..

Windshield is essential. Lol. I just put one in mine. Cost me 225. So that’s an easy one to do that is low cost and gets you closer to back on the road. Having two rigs you’re building at once always puts the priority to one that is more in need. Even if you dedicate a couple hours a week back to the blazer at least you are being proactive. Even if it’s just wiring up one thing or something small you will feel better you did something to it. Tftu

that's exactly it.. I have decided that I want to finish a project "to the end" for once in my life... and somehow, that became Mutt.... but fitting in some effort and thought on this one needed to smack me in the forehead.... Mutt has been very consuming, but it's also time to look at the bigger picture..

and yeah, I'm so sick of having plastic over that opening! ;)

I had a tree fall on mine during sandy. Sucked but it fortunately only took out the windshield and a small dent on the a pillar and hood. With yours you can probably just have safelite come to your house to install. Would be easiest. And doing it yourself sucks for the cost of them doing it for you. Just make sure all the paint and things are done around the windshield so you dont have to worry about removing it again later.

it's been ready since i did the dash build.. i'd really like to put a new weather strip in with it.. have to see how the replacement stuff is compared to the one i took out..

$200 for this rig seems like light yr's away when I'm probably looking at 10 g's start to finish for the 6BT deal.. :doah: :haha:

Look on eBay for NOS if you can find it at a good price. You will be happy you did. I can get you the part #’s if you would like.

I used a precision one from gmcpauls.com it was the best one through my research. The window tech said it was the easiest install he had with a truck as old as mine.

Hey Ryoken, any chance to get some pics back in this thread?

I missed out on the awesomeness you put in here... would be cool to check out.
